8mb.local is now on Android
Compress videos right on your phone or tablet—no computer, server, or account
required. Pick videos with Android's Photo Picker, choose a target size, and
let the app select a working hardware encoder automatically.
- Finished videos save to your camera roll automatically on Android 10+.
- Preview your video in the app before sharing it.
- Compress multiple videos, trim clips, adjust resolution and frame rate,
mute audio, or extract audio. - Familiar size presets and desktop-matched defaults, with the same
8mb.local icon. - Compression happens entirely on your device; the app does not upload your videos.
Requires Android 8.0 or newer. Download 8mblocal-143-android.apk below;
the installation guide
walks you through setup.
Android 8–9 uses a Save As picker instead of automatic gallery saving.

Before you install
If you installed an earlier Android preview, uninstall it once before installing
this release. App history and settings reset; videos already saved to your
gallery are separate from that app-local data. Future releases will use the
same permanent signing key so they can update normally.
Codec support depends on your device. Being able to play AV1 does not necessarily
mean your device can create AV1 videos. Android was tested on MediaTek and
Snapdragon devices, including camera-roll saving and preview before sharing.
Windows builds are not publisher-signed and may show a security warning. The
experimental Mac build is not notarized; real-Mac hardware acceleration has
not yet been verified. Android is an on-device app, so desktop-only server
settings and encoder-specific options are not included.
