NeXroll 2.4.0 can update itself on Windows: install new versions from Settings > System, or let NeXroll install them at an hour you pick. Setup also asks for your timezone, and with login on NeXroll names Jellyfin and Emby plugins that connect without an API key.
Upgrading
- Windows: install 2.4.0 by hand (run the installer over your existing install). It is the first version that can update itself; from then on, Settings > System > Install Update installs new versions for you.
- Docker:
jbrns/nexroll:latest,:2.4and:2, and the same tags onghcr.io/jflxcloud/nexroll, are 2.4.0.:2.3stays on 2.3.0, so if you pin:2.3, move to:2.4or:2. Docker installs update the same way as before. - With login on, give each Jellyfin and Emby plugin an API key if NeXroll says it has none. Plugins still work without one for now; a later version will require it.
- Jellyfin and Emby: no plugin update. 1.14.2.0 (Jellyfin 10.11 and Emby) and 1.15.2.0 (Jellyfin 12) are still current.
- Your data carries over and there are no settings to change. Automatic updates stay off until you turn them on.
Install Update (Windows)
When a new version is out, Settings > System shows Install Update. NeXroll backs up its database, and a helper the installer sets up (the NeXroll Updater scheduled task) downloads the release from this GitHub page, checks it against GitHub's SHA-256 for the file, installs it and starts NeXroll again the way it was running: as the service, from the tray or on its own. It only installs official releases newer than yours, never an older one. NeXroll is down for a few minutes while it runs.
Automatic Updates, next to it, do the same at an hour you pick, once a release is as old as you choose (3 days by default). They wait while something is playing on Plex, Jellyfin or Emby, and try each version once a day at most. They are off until you turn them on.
The helper runs as SYSTEM from NeXroll's install folder. In Program Files nothing changes. If you installed NeXroll somewhere other users can change files, the installer gives that folder Program Files' permissions, so only administrators can change what the helper runs.
See Install Update.
Timezone
Schedules run on NeXroll's timezone, which stayed on UTC on installs where nobody set it, so a 10 PM schedule could start in the afternoon (#50). Setup now asks for it, starting from your device's, and the Dashboard, My Schedules and Schedule Calendar say when NeXroll's timezone differs from your device's, with a button to switch. See Timezone.
Plugins without an API key
The API key is optional in the Jellyfin and Emby plugins, so with login on NeXroll still sends prerolls to a plugin without one, and anyone who can reach NeXroll can ask for them the same way. While login is on, the Jellyfin or Emby page under Connect and System health on the dashboard now name each plugin that connects without a key. Give it a key creates one and saves it in the plugin, keeping its other settings. A later version will require the key. See Authentication.
Fixed
- Emby: saving the plugin from the Connect page reset its Movies/Episodes, Max Intros and timeout settings, and a plugin without an API key showed as missing.
- The frontend's build tools are updated to patched releases (security advisories in build-time packages).
The full list is in the changelog.
