A first-run setup on every device, so a TECHO5 device can be given to someone and set itself up, plus timers that survive a reconnect.
- First run (setup guide): a newly installed device walks its owner through setup: Wi-Fi, a name and room, adding it to Home Assistant with nothing to type, and updates. A device with a screen shows the steps; the setup page has them too. Devices that are already set up count as done and see nothing new.
- Reset for someone else (how): clears the name, key, Wi-Fi and the old home's files and starts first run again, from settings, the setup page or Home Assistant's
reset_for_someone_elseaction (withconfirm: reset). - Installing for someone else: the installers take
--for-someone-else, which leaves Wi-Fi, the name and the key to the device's own first run. - Timers (#475, thanks @rjlee): Home Assistant timers stay on the screen through an API reconnect instead of disappearing.
- Radio (#466, thanks @calin2k): the star saves a stream the device plays itself to its own stations when Home Assistant's radio favorites aren't set up.
- Gemini Live (#467, thanks @calin2k): a turn that calls a tool waits for the answer instead of ending. The default model is now
gemini-2.5-flash-native-audio-latest, since the earlier preview was retired. - Modern Now Playing (#469, thanks @Milinator): Display, Home screen, Now playing layout, Modern puts square artwork beside the track details and controls.
- Dashboard tiles (#474, thanks @pimvanoerle): drawn dashboards follow a tile card's
grid_options, so one tile can span the row or be up to four tiles tall. - Weather alerts on the Dashboard clock (#472, thanks @SilverballSlayer): on a Show 8 the alert badge no longer covers the temperature, which moves under the date while an alert is up.
- Your own script at boot (#452, thanks @rjlee): an executable
/data/techo5-linux/rc.localruns at the end of every boot (Echo Show builds and the Skylight). - Wi-Fi: a device that started with no network now gets an IPv4 address when it joins one later.
