Rain that runs down the glass, lightning that strikes at random, a news update by voice, Wi-Fi quiet hours, and a way to skip one morning's alarm.

  • Weather that looks like weather: rain on the weather page and the weather art now gathers on the glass in drops of every shape, which bend the picture behind them, run down in fits and starts and leave a trail that dries away. Lightning strikes at no rhythm, a new branching bolt each time, flickering two to four times and lighting the sky; now and then only the cloud lights up.
  • A news update by voice (direct assistant): "play the Fox news update", "play NPR News Now" or "what's the news" plays the newest episode of a short news podcast, once. ABC News Update, Fox News Hourly Update and NPR News Now are built in, and the setup page's News updates field adds your own.
  • Skip one morning (#360, thanks @cortig00): while the wake-up light comes up before a repeating alarm, Skip on the light's page leaves out just that one. The alarm keeps its days and rings as usual next time.
  • Wi-Fi quiet hours (#391, thanks @mawi13): for a home that switches its access point off at night. The device leaves the Wi-Fi as the hours start and joins again as they end, instead of joining another network it knows or searching all night. Off until you turn it on; alarms and timers set on the device still ring.
  • Show 8 2nd gen Wi-Fi power save off (#389, thanks @abarbarich): a busy 2.4 GHz channel no longer stalls AirPlay long enough to end it.
  • A new address on a new network (#384, thanks @ploeg39-dev): when the device moves to another saved network by itself, it asks for an address there instead of keeping the old network's, where nothing could reach it.
  • The hang-up word in a quiet room (#392, thanks @rubenzori86): during an intercom call, the far end now counts as talking only when it's louder than the background noise it sends, so a quiet room no longer holds back the hang-up word or the wake word.
  • Tessera remote tiles (#388, thanks @JVDubs): a tap on a remote's tile turns it on or off. A remote's key tile does nothing on a tap rather than switch the whole remote off.
  • Spot unlock from a Mac (#394, thanks @nivak86): the getting started guide now has a way to unlock a Spot straight from a Mac with Apple Silicon.
