More in the voice request events, a switch to keep what you say out of Home Assistant's history, new diagnostics, and an opt-in boot layer for the Show 8 2nd gen.

  • Voice request events (#381, #379, thanks @gurrier): esphome.techo5_voice now carries wake_score, the highest score the wake word reached, so false wakes can be logged beside what was heard. A canceled request also says why in reason: stopped, interrupted, cut_off or answered_elsewhere (another device heard the wake word first). ended is unchanged.
  • Send voice text (#383, thanks @gurrier): a new switch on each device. Turned off, Last heard and Last reply stay empty, the voice events leave out what was heard and the reply, and the device's log leaves them out too. It's on by default, as before.
  • Firmware version in Home Assistant (#378, thanks @gurrier): the device page now shows the TECHO5 version as the firmware, for example "v1.6.21 (ESPHome 2026.5.1)", and the model no longer changes with every release.
  • New diagnostics (#386, #382, thanks @gurrier): CPU usage, Wake word load, Wake frames and Worst wake frame, and Last boot reason (update, restart, recovery, watchdog, panic, power or unknown). Load average reads high on these devices because it counts threads waiting in the drivers; the dashboard docs explain each one.
  • Wake word cost (#385, thanks @gurrier): the docs now say which built-in wake words take more processor time. Okay Nabu, Hey Jarvis, Hey Mycroft and Alexa are the light ones.
  • Room floor (#377, thanks @gurrier): the device now logs how quiet the room really gets once an hour, to set the floor's minimum per device in a later release.
  • Show 8 2nd gen boot layer (#340, thanks @nuno407): an opt-in U-Boot that gives each slot its own kernel and falls back to the other slot by itself if a new one fails to start. U-Boot is built from source in CI and attested. install-athena.py --boot-layer turns it on and --boot-layer-off turns it off; see the install guide. Nothing changes unless you turn it on.
  • Show 8 2nd gen on Fire OS 7082 (#263, thanks @rmaffeo and @jameshiscott): the install guide now says the unlock works on 7082, with 7080's speaker tunings.

Please open an issue if something doesn't work.
