github HuskerMinion/techo5 v1.6.11

The 2nd gen Show 8 draws its screen on its GPU, Bluetooth Secure Connections really reaches the controller, and steadier installers.

  • 2nd gen Show 8 on its GPU (#308, thanks @nuno407): the Mali GPU now draws the panel, which leaves the cores free. If the GPU can't be used, the screen draws on the cores as before. Every other Show is unchanged.
  • Adaptive backlight (#308, 2nd gen Show 8 only, off by default): on dark screens the backlight goes down and the pixels are drawn brighter by as much, so the screen looks the same for less light.
  • 2nd gen Show 8 camera (#309, thanks @nuno407): a picture too big for the JPEG encoder's buffer no longer leaves the camera stuck. This is in the new 2nd gen Show 8 kernel.
  • Bluetooth Secure Connections (#183): v1.6.10's fix didn't take, because btmgmt printed nothing when the daemon ran it. The daemon now sets it on the controller directly, so turning the switch off lets phones that dropped right after pairing stay connected.
  • Installers:
    • install-show.py always finds the boot image for the Show 5 1st gen, Show 5 2nd gen and Show 8 1st gen: every release now carries them, and the installer reads the whole list of earlier releases.
    • If the unit restarts partway, the installer says so at once, says whether anything was erased, saves the kernel's log of the restart for an issue, and points to new "finish by hand" steps in docs/install.md.
    • A locked bootloader gets a clear message instead of fastboot's "restricted on locked hw".
    • When the console goes quiet after slot a starts, the installer says the install is probably done instead of reporting an error.

Please open an issue if something doesn't work.
