Home Assistant dashboards on the screen. Swipe in from the left edge of the clock to open a dashboard, or have it take the clock's place when nothing else is on the screen. Each device picks one of two ways in Home Assistant (its device page, Configuration, Dashboard):

  • Drawn on the device. The device reads the dashboard's cards and draws them itself, in your theme's colors: tiles you tap, or slide for a light's brightness, a cover's position or a thermostat's temperature; rows with switches; headings, markdown, graphs, gauges, pictures and cameras. Taps are instant and nothing else is needed. With no dashboard picked, it builds a Rooms dashboard from your areas. It draws the kinds of cards it knows, so build a dashboard for the screen rather than expecting one made for a browser to look the same; a card it doesn't know shows as a named placeholder.
  • Streamed. Your dashboard exactly as Home Assistant draws it, custom cards included, plus built-in pages like Energy and History. It needs dashcast, a small server that runs next to Home Assistant and is published as a Docker image for PCs and Raspberry Pis (ghcr.io/huskerminion/techo5-dashcast). The link between the screen and dashcast is encrypted with a key of your choosing, and dashcast shows dashboards and nothing else. Give it a Home Assistant user that is not an administrator.

Set the dashboard with Dashboard to show, and Dashboard when idle to put it in place of the clock. The dashcast address and key go on the setup page's Connections tab, or through the dashboard_server action. Everything, including which mode to pick: docs/dashboards.md.

Also in this release:

  • The screen updates faster on the Shows (the rotated screen copy takes half the time).
  • A weather question with "put on" in it brings up the forecast again, and a sound file's name is shown properly when it has spaces or accents in it.
  • Demo mode also covers the setup page's address and the cameras' names, for screenshots you want to share.
