Most of this release is about the device doing the ordinary things on its own, without Home Assistant.

On the device

  • Timers. Alarms & Timers, New timer. They ring here, and the clock counts them down.
  • The time zone. Settings, General, Time zone. A device that had never paired sat on UTC with no way to change it.
  • A setup page, in a browser, for the things that are miserable to type on a five inch screen: Wi-Fi, radio stations, the time zone, the device's name, and a diagnostics bundle. Switch it on in Settings, Privacy, and it tells you the address to open. A browser asking to get in is answered by tapping Allow on the screen. It closes itself seven minutes after you stop using it.
  • Wi-Fi from that page. It scans, takes a name and a passphrase, and keeps every network it has been given, so a device set up in one house still joins the network it is taken to and the way back is still there.
  • Radio stations kept on the device, typed on the setup page, played without Home Assistant.
  • A sleep timer. Fifteen minutes to two hours; what is playing stops.
  • Wake with light. The screen becomes a sunrise before an alarm: dark red through orange to a pale gold, a sun climbing into it, the time readable the whole way. A face on the sun is a setting, off by default.
  • A diagnostics bundle you can send without reading it first. Addresses, networks, keys, serial numbers and the device's own name are replaced before it is written.

Sound

  • The Show loads its own speaker tuning. It never did: the loader only knew the Dot's set of files, so the Show played untuned. Found and reported by @Empty2k12 in #8 against a first generation Show; both generations get it.
  • Bass and treble, six decibels either way, in Home Assistant and on the settings screen. The vendor's tuning puts the low end about sixteen decibels above the mids, which is more than some rooms want.
  • The Speaker EQ switch records what you asked for rather than what the device managed, so a unit that could not tune yesterday tunes today without anybody touching a switch.

Radio puts itself back on when Home Assistant's proxy drops the stream: three tries in ten minutes, then it leaves it off.

Screens. A weather icon beside the temperature on the clock and the now playing screen, and the date is back on now playing.

No boot image changed in this release, so a first generation Show installs with the one from v0.7.10.
