Release Notes

Highlights

  • Connect a profile at boot. sudo vortix autoconnect <profile> installs a boot unit (systemd on Linux, launchd on macOS) that runs vortix up <profile> at every boot and retries a failed attempt every 30 s. vortix autoconnect shows what is set, and sudo vortix autoconnect off removes it. (#363)
  • Flip a panel to see why it says what it does. f on Security Guard shows the evidence behind the verdict, each reading with its age: exit and real addresses, the DNS the tunnel asked for against the one in use, the kill switch and the cipher, failing checks first. f on Connection Details shows the tunnel's health: uptime, drops since you connected, the health reason (such as a stale handshake), routes and DNS, or why its last connect failed. A panel with something to explain shows [f] why in its border; the Chart no longer flips. (#370)

Fixed

  • The npm package installs with npm 11, pnpm and Bun. It now carries its binaries instead of downloading them in an install script those tools skip, which left vortix failing with EACCES. (#358)
  • The dashboard reads cleanly at 80×24. Profile names in a narrow sidebar, whole addresses and sentences in Security Guard (also with two warnings on an IPv6 network), the end of a long config path in Connection Details and the session totals in Throughput all stay readable, and a value too long for its panel ends in an ellipsis. (#360, #369, #372)
  • Disconnecting and Reconnecting count from when they began, not from when the tunnel first connected. (#357)
  • The session-lock hint names the config directory in use, so its chown command works with -C or a custom config directory. (#357)
  • Shell completions say where to go. docs/usage.md gives the install location for bash, zsh and fish, and vortix completions --help uses the same bash path instead of appending to ~/.bashrc. (#377, #383)
  • The help matches the keys. It lists h/l for moving between panels and describes D as it works. (#361, #369)

Changed

  • Homebrew installs from homebrew-core. brew install vortix now comes from homebrew-core; users of the old Harry-kp/tap formula move over on their next brew upgrade. (#352)
