CleanYourTV 3.3: hold OK to move your apps

Your Home, in the order you want it. In v3.3, hold OK on any app on Home and a small menu opens: Move, App info, and Remove from Home when the App library is on. Choose Move, the arrows carry the tile, and Back puts it down. Until now this menu was a switch you had to find and turn on; in 3.3 every Home has it. The rest of this release is three days of the community at work: 47 more TVs, four new themes, Asturian in the launcher, and tools that tell you in a plain sentence when they can't reach your TV.

Since v3.2.0: 407 TV models (from 360), 106 brands (from 97), 31 languages (from 30), 16 themes (from 12), 177 projects in the showcase (from 151), 262 pull requests from 163 people in three days (v3.2 had 177 from 104 in two days). No binaries, as always: build the launcher with launcher/build-and-install.sh.

Highlights

  • Hold OK to move your apps: the tile menu is on by default. Hold OK on a Home tile for Move, Remove from Home (with the App library) and App info, and holding OK now opens it reliably (#2434)
  • 47 more TVs from 9 new brands: Bell Canada, DEXP, Hikeen, LYNCAST, Magyar Telekom, MarQ, Salora, TD Systems and TIM
  • Four new themes (16 now): minimal, blocky, storm and red-rain
  • Asturian in the launcher (#2460), so 31 languages, and the README in Ukrainian (#2675) and Turkish (#2858)
  • More switches for Home: a 12- or 24-hour clock, Back for the clock screensaver, an app that opens when the screen comes on, and a remote button for the App library, all off by default
  • Safer on Android 14: the core-package guard now covers the SDK sandbox, which fixes a TCL G08 that hung on the boot logo (#2557, #2696)
  • Tools that say what went wrong: about 20 tools now stop with exit code 2 and a plain sentence when the TV can't be reached, instead of a traceback
  • Open on wake, a new add-on (31 now) that opens the app you choose when the screen turns on (#2597)
  • 177 projects in the showcase, including StreamHome, Kids World and CleanYourTV Desktop

Hold OK to move your apps

  • Hold OK on any tile on Home and a small menu opens
  • Move picks the tile up: the arrows carry it, Back puts it down
  • Remove from Home (when the App library is on) takes the app off Home without uninstalling it; one press in the App library puts it back
  • App info opens the app's own info page, which is what holding OK did before 3.3. It's still in the menu
  • Holding OK opens the menu reliably, on every tile (#2434)

Prefer the old way? Put "tile_menu": false in your theme's config.json, and holding OK goes straight to App info again. Reorder apps under the Settings button still works too.

Launcher 3.3

The tile menu is on by default (above). Everything else new is off by default; nothing changes unless a theme or config turns it on.

  • A 12- or 24-hour clock, whatever the TV is set to (clock_format, #2271)
  • Back on Home opens the clock screensaver (back_opens_clock, #2538)
  • Open on start, on wake too: the Open on start app also opens when the screen comes on (open_on_start_on_wake, #2775). For any Home, there's the new Open on wake add-on (#2597)
  • A remote button for the App library: app_keys takes the action word library (#2829), and Home runs hold: entries for vendor keys (#2419)
  • input_action can name an activity, for TVs like the Redmi X65 whose inputs live in their own screen (#2573)
  • glow_snap: the ambient glow changes colour in one frame instead of fading (#2896)
  • ColorOS TV: the launcher declares the MODERN_HOME category that OPPO and OnePlus sets on ColorOS TV need before they boot a Home (#2080)

Fixes

  • The glass highlight sits on the focused tile after a cold start, instead of an empty outline floating over the wallpaper (#2909)
  • The focus glow stays level with a dock tile under advanced_effects (#2575)
  • The compact header and date-below icons line up (#2713)
  • A black backdrop sits behind Android 14's translucent Default home picker, so it's readable (#2780)
  • The cinematic theme's "Last opened" line refreshes when Home comes back (#2328)
  • Icon plates and card colours read multicoloured logos correctly, instead of treating them as grey (#2641)
  • The VPN pill rests on dark glass, so its colour reads over a bright wallpaper (#2919)

Themes

  • minimal: a quiet look, close to Apple TV, made only from keys that already exist (#2807)
  • blocky: 11 pixel-art scenes that follow the time of day (#2202)
  • storm: four lightning photos, a new one every hour, behind a glass dock (#2531)
  • red-rain: a red take on the Matrix digital rain (#2863)

Sixteen themes now. Halloween stays in themes/halloween: its skin switches itself off after 1 November, as planned, and the theme is still there to apply any time. cleanyour.tv/halloween stays up too.

The theme tools run natively on Windows (#2674), theme.sh leaves wallpapers/ to the launcher so pictures land on a fresh install (#2589), and manage.py set refuses a --theme folder that isn't there instead of making it (#2644).

Add-ons (one new, in addons/)

  • Open on wake: opens the app you choose when the screen turns on (#2597)

Smart Home gets a weather and fuel header (#2711), Weather's options can be changed with the remote (#1926), the News screensaver also asks for AUTO_START on TCL G08 builds (#2023), and Remote Access reports wireless debugging that runs with USB debugging off (#2451). Weather speaks Spanish (#2602) and Open on wake speaks Italian (#2931). Browse them all: cleanyour.tv/addons.

New TVs and brands

47 more TV models, from 9 new brands: Bell Canada (Fibe TV, ARRIS VIP7802), DEXP (A651), Hikeen, LYNCAST (X3AQ), Magyar Telekom (TV box), MarQ (4K Android TV), Salora (SMART24TV), TD Systems (CH17F40S) and TIM (TIMVISION Box). Also new: the Sony XR-77A80L and XBR-75X850C, the Hisense U7 55U7SG, the Philips 77OLED810 and 65OLED807, two Fire TV Sticks (4K Max 2nd gen and 3rd gen), the Xiaomi Smart Projector L1 Pro, the XGIMI RS10 Ultra and Horizon 20, the Nokia R4, the BenQ QS02 stick and more. Plus second, third and even ninth units for many lists already here, and new device notes. The full list: examples/.

Safety

  • The core-package guard covers the SDK sandbox: a TCL G08 on Android 14 hung on the boot logo after it was disabled; the guard now keeps it (#2557, #2696)
  • WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS follows the switch: an install without RESTORE_KEY_SERVICES now takes the permission back, instead of keeping it from an earlier install (#2458)
  • Safer lists: the Insignia AFTDCT31 keeps Amazon Luna's player (#2904), and the Sony UR2 keeps Vewd, without which its AirPlay app crash-loops (#2737)

Tools

  • philips-api.py checks that the JointSpace API Home Assistant uses still works after a cleanup (#2688), and tells an unreachable TV from a disabled service (#2760, #2903)
  • Plain answers: about 20 tools now stop with exit code 2 and a plain sentence when the TV can't be reached, instead of a traceback: tv.py, trace.py, bench.py, b64push.py, privacy.py, manage.py, recovery.py, theme_restart.py and more
  • Docker builds: the image builds on a first run in Windows PowerShell 5.1 (#2893), and the Docker page explains why the build fails in an arm64 container on Apple Silicon and how to build natively there instead (#2895)
  • restore.sh refuses a run with no list, or a flag it doesn't have (#2899); b64push.py leaves room for a long staging path (#2536, #2648); a screenshot cut off before its end is refused (#2620)
  • build-and-install.sh finds the Android SDK under Homebrew in /usr/local (#2518)

Translations

  • Asturian in the launcher (#2460), so 31 languages
  • The README now comes in Ukrainian (#2675) and Turkish (#2858) too, and the Italian README is up to date for 3.2 (#2548)
  • Add-ons: Weather in Spanish (#2602), Open on wake in Italian (#2931)

Showcase

177 projects (from 151), including StreamHome (#2927), Kids World, a home screen for children (#2882), a Chromecast Home fork with Up next and Now playing (#2898), CleanYourTV Desktop (#2662), Art Frame for the TCL NXTFRAME (#2576), NoGmsVoice, offline speech recognition for TVs without Google (#2577), the blocky cabin launcher and its Samsung Tizen port (#2607), and a Skyworth Coocaa port for Android 6.0 (#2824). See them all in SHOWCASE.md.

For contributors

  • The launcher is about 573 KB (from 561), under the 576 KB gate. versionName 3.3, versionCode 12
  • New checks: a prebuilt binary is refused anywhere in the tree (#2709), every module card an add-on ships is one the launcher accepts (#2590), and every theme picture is a shape the launcher draws (#2601)

Install and upgrade

  • New here: send PROMPT.md to your AI assistant, or follow the README
  • Already on CleanYourTV: pull the repo and run launcher/build-and-install.sh to upgrade to 3.3; your config and themes are kept. Holding OK on a tile now opens the tile menu; set "tile_menu": false in your theme's config.json to keep the old App info shortcut
