Features

  • Conversions pane for auto conversion rules per folder

Pipeline based Automations that only have conversion steps have a Migrate to native conversion button

Conversions pane

Image conversion rule

Video conversion rule

  • Lossless JPEG XL and WebP conversion, a JPEG turned into JPEG XL can be turned back into the exact original

to JPEG-XL and Lossless JPEG-XL built-in pipelines, and clop convert --lossless

Improvements

  • HDR photos stay HDR when converted to JPEG XL
  • JPEG XL conversions are smaller and faster, through the jixel encoder
  • Transparent images are smaller when converted to AVIF or JPEG XL
  • AV1 and WebM conversions are smaller
  • PNGs come out smaller after an extra lossless pass
  • HEIC conversions are smaller and use the macOS encoder
  • Animated WebP files can be optimised, cropped and resized on Intel Macs
  • JPEG XL, AVIF and WebP images copied to the clipboard paste into apps that can't read those formats
  • clop moved into the app's Helpers folder, your link and agent configs migrate on first launch

Fixes

  • Optimise with Clop from the Services menu no longer optimises the image on the clipboard when it can't read the selected file
  • Image files that macOS doesn't let Clop read show Can't read file and the reason
  • Pipelines with a convert step keep that format, later steps no longer convert the file again to JPEG or MP4
  • Pipelines with a missing ) show the error instead of running with a step left out
  • Animated WebP files on Intel Macs are no longer turned into a single-frame JPEG
  • Animated PNGs keep their animation when optimised
  • Pipelines that only convert a video to HEVC, AV1, WebM or GIF no longer leave the result spinning after the file is done
  • HEVC conversions work on Intel Macs, through the software encoder
  • Converting audio to a larger format, like MP3 to FLAC, no longer leaves the original unconverted
  • 16-bit grayscale PNGs with transparency keep their transparency when converted to AVIF
  • AI agents asked to keep the original file through MCP now write the result next to it, instead of replacing the original
  • Cropping a video to an aspect ratio that comes out at an odd size, like 9:16 from 720p, no longer fails
  • PDF pipelines that extract pages as images after optimising now save the page images
  • File name templates that end in the extension, like %f-small.pdf, no longer give doc-small.pdf.pdf
  • Pipelines and conversions for a watched folder also work when the folder is a symlink
  • Pipeline filters by kind of file, like if(types: image), now let those files through
  • Pipeline rename steps given a full path rename the file
  • Files from pipelines with a step that writes to the temporary folder keep their own name, without a pipeline-… prefix
  • Pipeline results meant for the original's folder no longer land in Clop's cache after a step that used the temporary folder
  • removeAudio steps written with parameters are no longer left out of the pipeline
  • JPEG XL files are read and written with libjxl 0.12, which fixes two security issues
  • Downscaling and cropping WebP, AVIF, HEIC and JPEG XL images works when they aren't set to be converted
  • Pipeline steps after capFps, removeAudio or a speed change keep what those steps did, instead of starting again from the original video
  • Fixed a possible freeze when optimising an image in Desktop or Documents from the CLI, while macOS asks for access
  • Fixed a possible freeze when using Optimise with Clop on a file that's still downloading or on a slow drive
  • Fixed a possible freeze when copying photos from Photos that are stored in iCloud
  • Fixed a possible freeze when opening the clipboard settings with many apps installed
  • Fixed a possible crash when a pipeline step got an empty or damaged image
  • Fixed a possible crash when settings synced from another Mac
  • Fixed a possible crash when right-clicking the empty space in a list on macOS 27
