Improved index

  • Tree-based index: files are now stored as an efficient data structure leveraging graph theory for size savings and faster search

Searches are more than twice as fast, and the index takes less than half the disk space and memory

  • Searches with several words get the biggest speed-up

  • A folder renamed from Cling keeps its files searchable under the new name

  • Files in a folder that was blocked or excluded from the index are removed from the results right away

  • A file that replaces a folder with the same name also takes the folder's old files out of the results

  • Searches made only of extensions, like .md .txt, no longer miss files after other files were deleted

  • New files no longer go missing from search when a big folder keeps changing

Features

  • Send feedback window for reporting an issue, with logs and crash reports attached

You can open it from Help > Contact the developer, from Settings > About, or through the link cling.lowtechguys.com/feedback

The report can include the folders, searches, drives or files that the issue is about, and 30 seconds of detailed logs recorded while reproducing it

For an issue that happens unpredictably, Cling can keep its detailed logs for days (Keep debug logs, which asks for an admin password once)

Send feedback window

  • Separate sort orders for a typed query and for an empty search bar, each kept when changed (by relevance and newest first by default)

  • File server settings: the gear beside Recent opens zoom, appearance and filter strip

Fixes

  • Fixed a possible freeze when checking for Full Disk Access took a long time
  • Fixed a possible freeze after macOS restarted the service that reports file changes
  • Folder filters no longer miss files added after the first folder-filtered search
  • Extensions typed beside a quick filter narrow it down, so .webm with Videos finds only WebM files
  • Sound-only WebM files, like a browser's voice recordings, open in the file server's audio player
  • The file server says when the browser can't play a WebM video, instead of showing a black picture
