Meld v0.8.4
This is a small maintenance release with a few minor fixes and improvements.
🐛 Minor Fixes
- Fixed several minor issues and regressions
- General stability and reliability improvements
🛠️ Maintenance Mode
Starting with v0.8.4, Meld will temporarily enter maintenance mode.
This means that no major new features or significant development will be added to Meld for the time being. Development will be limited to:
- Critical bug fixes
- Major regressions
- Issues that significantly affect usability or stability
Why?
Meld is based on Metrolist, and Metrolist is currently undergoing a major architectural transition to Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP).
This migration will allow Metrolist to eventually run across multiple platforms:
- 🤖 Android
- 🍎 iOS
- 🖥️ Desktop
Rather than continuing to build new features on top of the current Android-only architecture, the plan is to follow this transition and eventually bring Meld's Spotify integration into the new multiplatform codebase.
This should provide a much better foundation for Meld going forward and, hopefully, allow its Spotify integration and features to benefit from the same cross-platform architecture.
🚧 What's Next?
For now, Meld will remain available and maintained, but development will be intentionally limited while the underlying platform evolves.
Once the Kotlin Multiplatform migration is mature enough, the focus will shift towards bringing Meld's Spotify integration to the new architecture and rebuilding Meld on top of the new multiplatform foundation.
This is not the end of Meld — it's more of a pause before the next major step.
Thank you to everyone who has been using Meld, reporting bugs, opening issues, and contributing along the way. ❤️
See you on the other side of the migration.
