3.9.8 – Wait until you type
Right after 3.9.7, @nickj2014 came back with an idea: instead of widening the URL bar whenever it has focus, widen it only while the results dropdown is actually open. Pretty good idea. Firefox focuses the URL bar there right away, so the bar used to stretch and push the tabs aside even if all you wanted was to click a bookmark. Now everything stays put until you start typing. On a regular page nothing changes, because clicking the URL bar opens the dropdown immediately anyway.
Changed
- The URL bar widens only while its results dropdown is open, not on focus alone. A new tab no longer shifts the tab strip until you type. (#68, suggested by @nickj2014)
Notes
- Only
userChrome.csschanged.userContent.cssjust carries the new version number, no need to copy it again. - Tested on Firefox 158 on Windows with
browser.nova.enabledset totrue.
Turns out the URL bar didn't need to be faster, just more patient.
