3.8.1 – ...and the PDF viewer, too.
Nova had one hiding place left: Firefox's built-in PDF viewer. Open any PDF and you got violet menu rows, violet sidebar buttons and a grey frame around the thumbnails, right below an amber tab strip. The obvious fix, an @-moz-document rule like the one for the about: pages, doesn't work here, because the viewer carries the URL of the PDF itself. That can be anything from https://…/file.pdf to a download script with no .pdf in sight. What the viewer does carry reliably is a fixed attribute on its root element, so that's where FoxOne hooks in now.
New
- The PDF viewer follows the FoxOne palette. Toolbar, sidebar, menus and the canvas behind the pages are flat base. Toolbar icons use the full text colour instead of Nova's dimmed grey. Toggled buttons (sidebar open, an editing tool active) show the accent on the icon instead of sitting in a grey circle. Hovered menu rows and sidebar buttons fill amber. The thumbnail hover frame uses the lighter amber from the tab title hover, so the current page keeps the stronger mark.
Notes
- Copy
userContent.cssAGAIN. 3.8.1 only changes that file.userChrome.cssonly got its version stamp bumped. - If you changed colours in
userContent.css: the palette moved out of theabout:block to the top of the file, so the PDF viewer can read it too. Carry your values over. - Text selection in PDFs keeps Firefox's own colour on purpose. The text layer is transparent text over the rendered page, and an opaque amber fill would cover exactly the words you are selecting.
- Tested on Firefox 156 and 157 with
browser.nova.enabledset totrue.
PS: A patch release for a single file, and it still got an intro paragraph and a postscript. At this point the release notes are the main product and the CSS is the attachment. Does anyone actually read all this? Leave a reaction if you made it this far.
