3.8 – Nova Release

3.8 – ready for Nova.

Firefox 157 will ship on Tuesday, 29nd September, and with it Nova for everyone. 3.8 makes sure FoxOne survives the switch, and while I was at it, it finally learned what to do with a light theme.

New

• Light mode. Until now FoxOne only painted in dark mode. Switch Firefox to light (about:addons - Themes - Light, or System on a light themed OS) and you got a buggy stock Nova, with some of FoxOne shining through, but still rounded and violet. 3.8 ships a Gruvbox Light palette with the same square shapes, in the chrome and on the about: pages. It sits next to the dark palette as --uc-light-color-*. The accent is a darker amber, because bright amber text on eggshell is unreadable. (#19)

Fixed

• The URL bar dropdown had a different colour than the URL bar. 157 replaced the old breakout with a two-part background, FoxOne only painted one half. (#49)
• In narrow windows the URL bar pushed into the tab strip on 157.
• Tab titles lost their amber and hover colours on 157.
• The Light / Dark / System picker in about:addons was round.
• The Downloads view in the Library kept Nova's colours and border.

Notes

• Copy userContent.css again. Without the new one the about: pages stay stock Nova in light mode. I ran a stale 3.6.5 copy for quite some time on my beta profile without noticing, so yeah... check yours please.
• The 3.7 notes called the puzzle button on the right opt-in. It shipped switched on, and that is how it stays. The docs say so now.
• Tested on Firefox 157b5 and 156 with browser.nova.enabled set to true.

PS: The goal was short release notes. One feature, five fixes, no story time. Then I added a PS to point that out, which is exactly how the last four went.
