Test build for AMD Radeon on Windows (issue #121, also #142): the 3D scene is drawn only in a small box in the top-left corner (512x256 pixels of the game's picture) while the sky, effects and HUD fill the screen. This build does not fix it yet. It records what the GPU is asked to draw, and tries four small changes one at a time, so we can find where the box comes from.
What changes
- GPU driver in the log:
last_run.lognow starts with one line naming the driver, its version, the Vulkan version and the features the port uses (GPU: driver ...). No setting needed. - Render area check: when a render pass draws into a smaller area than the images bound to it, or those images differ in size, the log says so (
GPU: area check: ...) and lists each image's address, format, size, mip and samples. At most 16 reports of each kind per run. - Copy path log: the first 32 depth/colour copies of a run say which path they take (
GPU: overlap copy ...). - Automatic frame capture: once per run, the build records one frame's list of render passes (the same file as the F11 capture) and takes a screenshot, either the first time the area check finds something serious or after a while of 3D. Nothing to press.
- Variations, one per run (the script below sets them; normal play is unchanged without them):
GOW3_STATE_PROBE=viewport: sets the viewport and scissor again inside every draw.GOW3_STATE_PROBE=depthstruct: also gives the depth/stencil state to each pipeline.GOW3_STATE_PROBE=depthreemit: sets the depth/stencil state again inside every draw.GOW3_FULL_BARRIERS=1(already in 2.3.0): a full memory barrier around every render pass.
issue121-test.batnext toGod of War III.exe: runs the game once per variation and zips the logs, captures and screenshots to your Desktop.- Everything else is the 2.3.0 build. The launcher still shows v2.3.0 and does not offer this build as an update.
How to test (AMD Radeon with the corner box)
- Extract
gow3-windows.zipover your currentgow3-windowsfolder (this keeps your saves and shader cache). Keep 1080p and no resolution patch. - Double-click
issue121-test.batand choose 1 (run A). The game starts: play at least 2 minutes of 3D (main menu with Kratos, the opening, the first fight or the upgrade menu), press F12 where the 3D shows, then close the game. Run A is the most important one. - If you can, do runs 2 to 5 too (or 6 for all of them in a row), the same way. Note for each run whether the 3D picture was still only in the top-left box.
- Choose Z. The script writes
gow3-issue121-<date>.zipto your Desktop.
| Run | Variation | |
|---|---|---|
| A | none | baseline: the box should still be there |
| B | GOW3_STATE_PROBE=viewport
| viewport and scissor in every draw |
| C | GOW3_STATE_PROBE=depthstruct
| depth/stencil state also in the pipeline |
| D | GOW3_STATE_PROBE=depthreemit
| depth/stencil state in every draw |
| E | GOW3_FULL_BARRIERS=1
| full memory barriers |
Reply on #121 with: your GPU and Adrenalin version, for each run whether the 3D scene filled the screen or stayed in the box, and the zip from your Desktop. If a run crashes, say which one; its log is in the zip. If you can also update to the current Adrenalin afterwards, one more run A tells us whether the driver alone changes it.
Validation so far
- Unit tests on Windows 11:
driver-report-test,overlap-copy-test,area-check-test,state-probe-test,dynamic-state-testand the existing GPU tests; Pythontests/test_issue121_bat.py(the script, with a stand-in game) and the full Python suite. - Started on a GTX 1650 (no corner box there) once per run, A to E, for 3 minutes each up to the first-boot screens: no crash, and each run prints its
GPU: driver,GPU: area check onand variation line. The area check on 3D passes and the automatic capture were not reached there. - Not run on a card with the corner box: that is what this build is for.
