I decided to change how Proton versions are handled.
How it was before:
When using GE-Proton Latest or Proton-EM Latest, every time a new version became available, that new version was downloaded and used, while the older versions were kept. For example:
- GE-Proton10-26
- GE-Proton10-27
- GE-Proton10-28
- proton-EM-10.0-30
- proton-EM-10.0-31
- proton-EM-10.0-32
The problem is that each Proton version takes around 1.4 GB. If the user has limited disk space or simply doesn’t want old versions taking up unnecessary space, they would have to manually delete them, which is inconvenient.
How it works now:
Only a single folder with the latest Proton version will be used:
- Proton-GE Latest
- Proton-EM Latest
This is also useful if the user wants to use the latest versions with Steam games.
If the user wants to use a specific Proton version, they can do so using the built-in Proton Manager or third-party tools such as ProtonPlus or ProtonUp-QT.
