0.8.0 — 4 October 2026
New games scrape themselves, the device answers in your hand, and the keyboard problem is fixed at
the root rather than worked around.
Artwork arrives on its own
- New ROMs are scraped in the background. A scan now reports what it found, and anything new is
queued and fetched while you carry on browsing — nothing runs from the screen you are looking at,
so the shelf stays responsive. Each game is tried three times with a pause between attempts, and a
game that already has metadata is left alone rather than re-fetched. - The queue says what it is doing — how many are waiting, which one is being fetched, how many
worked and how many did not — and can be switched off entirely in Settings.
The device answers back
- Haptics, with five signals that feel different from each other: a tick when the cursor moves,
a click when you choose, a lighter tick going back, a double pulse when something failed, and a
heavier one when a game starts. Every one of them is a system-defined effect, tuned by the device
maker against its own motor, rather than a hand-picked duration that reads as a dull buzz on
hardware it was never tested on. - Three settings, not a switch (Settings → Sound & startup → Haptics). The only signal that
becomes tiring is the navigation tick — scrubbing a shelf fires it dozens of times in seconds — so
Light, the default, keeps the ones that mark a decision and drops that one. Turning the whole
thing off to escape the buzz used to mean losing the confirmations with it.
A launch you can back out of
- A short window between pressing launch and the emulator taking over, with Cancel on B, the
back gesture, or the button. Deliberately short: every millisecond here is added to every launch,
and a game that starts slowly to guard against a rare mis-press is the worse trade.
Keeping the library honest
- A weekly check that every entry still points at a file. A card pulled out, a folder moved, a
ROM deleted from another app — none of that is something KONSORU can notice, and a stale entry
used to sit there until the next manual rescan and then fail with an error about resolving a path.
This is not a rescan: it asks only whether what the database already holds is still there, which
is cheap enough to do on its own in the background. - It never deletes on a doubt. Only an entry whose file resolves and reports that it is gone is
removed. A revoked permission, an unmounted card, anything that merely errors — those are left
alone. Keeping a dead entry costs one error message; deleting a live one costs a library.
Artwork you picked by hand
- "Scraped" next to "Clear" on every artwork row. Clear drops KONSORU's own entry and lets
whatever ES-DE provides show through; Scraped goes and fetches the providers' answer again, which
is what somebody who regrets a hand-picked image actually wants back. Neither restores a previous
scrape from storage — a manual pick overwrites it in the same column, and nothing kept a copy.
Fixed
- Text fields work with any keyboard again. KONSORU used to replace its own fields with a board
drawn on the lower screen whenever both displays were active. That also removed the Android input
connection, which is what every system keyboard needs to open at all — so Gboard could never
appear while KONSORU was running, and it looked like the keyboard was broken rather than absent.
The fields are real editable fields on every configuration now, and the lower screen makes room
for the keyboard instead of occupying the space it needs. - Confirming the keyboard still saves the field, so a renamed game and a pasted API key land where
they were typed.
