Changelog
0.4.5 — 15 September 2026
Adds an optional connection to a self-hosted RomM library, and makes first-run setup honest about
what it actually needs.
RomM library (optional)
Point KONSORU at your own RomM server under Settings → RomM library. Without a
server address and API token, none of this does anything and the launcher behaves exactly as before.
- Games on the server that aren't on this device appear dimmed, behind the ones that are, with
the server's own cover art so they're still recognisable. Press A to download one. - Downloads keep running when you close the popup you started them from, one file at a time,
with progress and a history under Settings → RomM library. - A downloaded game is rescanned and scraped straight away, so it looks like the rest of your
library immediately. - Save sync against the same server: newest wins, identical saves are left alone, and nothing is
ever merged or deleted. It reads the save folders of RetroArch, DuckStation, Dolphin, PPSSPP,
melonDS, DraStic, Flycast, Citra/Lime3DS, Cemu, Vita3K and others — RetroArch's location is read
from its own config rather than assumed, since it's the one emulator that can be asked. - Can be switched off without disconnecting — hides the server's games for a cleaner shelf while
leaving the library synced and save sync working.
Text entry
- The launcher now draws its own keyboard, on the lower screen, with QWERTZ and QWERTY layouts.
The system keyboard could not be made to work on this device: the Thor hosts it on the lower
display whatever screen the field is on, and with the launcher's own view there it renders
nothing at all. Even working, it can't be driven with a d-pad — which is how a handheld is used. - Fully navigable with the stick: A types, B deletes, X is space, Y shifts (twice for
caps lock), Start accepts, Select switches layout. Every one of those is also a key on the
board, so nothing depends on knowing a button. - A number row with the right shifted symbols per layout, umlauts and ß on QWERTZ, and a symbol
layer picked for what this app actually asks you to type —@ . / : _ - ~ ?. - The keyboard button on the lower screen opens it for the field you're standing on, and closes it
again. It hides itself when there's no field to type into, instead of doing nothing.
First-run setup
- Setup now says what is true: cover art works with nothing configured. LaunchBox needs no
account and is the default source, so a fresh install scrapes a whole library out of the box. - SteamGridDB and IGDB are presented as optional extras that fill gaps behind it, rather than as
something to get past before the launcher is useful. - The only step that matters is picking your ROM folder.
Settings
- Reorganised so a category's name predicts what's in it. "Display" had become a bin holding the
single-screen toggle, the home background, sound volume, hidden systems and boot videos. It's now
Appearance and Sound & startup; Storage is Library and holds hidden systems; Metadata is Scraping. - Server credentials live on their own page, as the SteamGridDB and IGDB keys already did.
- Rescan library now reports what it's doing and what it found. It previously gave no feedback at
all, and never stored its result either, so the text never changed even after it finished.
Home screen
- Start opens Settings.
- Hiding a game and downloading it moved into the game popup's header; the Hide tab is gone.
Fixed
- Scraped cover art could disappear after an update. The cache is dropped whenever the database
schema changes, which orphaned every mirrored file. Artwork is now recovered from your Konsoru
folder automatically, so the files outlive the cache. - Downloads failed with "couldn't create the file" when the ROM folder had been picked during
first-run setup, which took read-only access to it. New picks take write access, and the error now
says what to do about an older one. - Empty folders on a RomM server are no longer offered as downloadable games.
- Two unused 1080p background videos were being packaged, adding 82 MB to the download for nothing:
the PS3 theme draws its wave rather than playing one, and the Saturn theme uses a still image. - The keyboard never appeared in any text field. Beyond the display problem above, focusing a
field also hid the keyboard that focusing it had just raised.
