github FaFre/WebLibre v0.40.0-alpha-8

pre-release4 hours ago

This update makes it easier to recover closed tabs, manage downloads, and see what tracking protection is blocking. It also extends profile locking to separate website windows and improves menus, accessibility, and Android screen layouts.

Tabs and browsing history

  • Reopen recently closed tabs. Find Recently closed tabs in History to recover up to 10 regular tabs. Tabs return with their back-button history and original container when that container still exists. You can also reopen them in the background, remove individual entries, or clear the list. Private and isolated tabs are not saved.
  • Faster access to tab filters. The list and grid overviews now offer directly accessible All, Regular, Private, and Isolated filters when relevant. Using the + button with a specific filter selected starts a new tab of that type.
  • Less unexpected scrolling in the tab overview. Adding or closing other tabs no longer unnecessarily pulls you away from where you were browsing the list.
  • Easier tab searching and closing. Searching expands the tab overview to make room for results above the keyboard. Grid close buttons have larger touch targets, and the new-tab button responds more consistently when scrolling.
  • Remove unwanted history suggestions. Long-press a browsing-history suggestion beneath the address bar and choose Delete from history. An Undo option lets you reverse the action.
  • Clearer dates in History and Downloads. Entries are grouped under Today, Yesterday, and individual calendar dates, with times following your device’s 12- or 24-hour preference.

Downloads

  • See download progress directly in Downloads, including whether a download is starting, running, paused, or failed, and how much has downloaded.
  • Pause, resume, or cancel downloads, and retry failed downloads, using each download’s action menu.
  • More reliable controls while progress updates. Open action menus and selected downloads stay in place as download information refreshes.
  • Better handling of unfinished downloads. Tapping an incomplete download no longer tries to open it. Removing a running or paused download also cancels it.

Privacy and site controls

  • See which trackers were blocked on a page. Tap the site icon beside the address to open Site settings, then expand the blocked-tracker count to inspect categories and tracker addresses.
  • View tracker statistics in Privacy & Security. See an overall blocked-tracker total and a category breakdown for the last seven days. The former Content Blocking Database setting is now called Tracker Statistics, with a clearer explanation: it records daily counts and dates, not the addresses of websites you visit. Changing recording requires an app restart.
  • Check a tab’s proxy or Tor connection from Site settings. See its connection status and, when its assigned connection is stopped, use Start to begin the connection.
  • Better-organized Site settings. Tracking protection, connection information, and permissions appear first. Desktop mode, opening links in other apps, and gesture settings are grouped under Behavior.
  • Clearer site-data deletion. The confirmation identifies the affected domain and explains that deletion includes its subdomains and matching data across containers, private tabs, and isolated tabs. The action is now shown only in regular tabs.
  • More complete history clearing. Clearing all browsing history also removes recently closed tabs and tracker statistics, with more reliable cleanup of locally saved page content.

Profile locking

  • Profile locks now protect websites installed as apps and separate browser windows opened by other apps. These windows honor the profile’s password or Android device-unlock protection before showing locked content.
  • Fewer repeated unlock prompts. Unlocking can be shared between the main browser and separate website windows when your auto-lock settings allow it.
  • Fewer unnecessary relocks during brief interruptions, such as opening the notification shade or a permission dialog while the browser remains visible.
  • Clearer unlock errors and easier password retries. Messages explain missing Android screen-lock setup, temporary authentication lockouts, and unavailable authentication. After an unsuccessful password check, focus returns to the password field.
  • More reliable separate website windows, including preserving their current page and keeping navigation controls working when the main browser starts in the background.

Interface and accessibility

  • More consistent slide-up panels. The browser menu, tab overview, Site settings, add-on popups, and Small Web panels have updated layouts and can expand to full height while keeping controls clear of the keyboard and system bars. Download and add-on prompts also have matching rounded styling.
  • New optional toolbar buttons: add Scroll to Top and Scroll to Bottom through toolbar customization to jump through long pages with one tap.
  • Improved screen-reader support. Clearer labels identify Site settings, tab types, connection status, and bookmark actions. Tabs in list and grid views can be rearranged using screen-reader actions.
  • Better keyboard navigation. Focus stays inside the tab overview or Site settings while open, Escape dismisses the panel, and closing it restores focus. Browser shortcuts no longer activate covered controls.

Fixes

  • Fixed content overlapping Android’s three-button navigation bar and page-bottom content becoming unreachable when the toolbar hides.
  • Improved navigation-bar colors on older devices and devices where Android’s theme differs from WebLibre’s theme.
  • Improved landscape spacing and kept Find in Page aligned with the keyboard as it opens.
  • Fixed unwanted “open in another app” prompts in private tabs and protected containers when opening external apps is disabled or the request was already declined.
  • Separate website windows and WebLibre’s add-on popup window now follow the language selected inside the app.
  • Fixed websites losing the selected light or dark appearance during startup.
  • Removed thin visual seams between grouped tabs in the quick tab switcher.
