This update adds profile-specific passwords, gives you more control over automatic browsing-data deletion, and improves installed website apps, tab handling, and backup restoration.
Profile passwords and safer profile management
- Lock individual profiles with their own passwords. Choose between no lock, your device’s fingerprint/PIN lock, or a separate profile password. A fingerprint or device PIN cannot unlock a password-protected profile.
- Locked profiles now require confirmation before being backed up, deleted, or replaced with a backup, including when you manage them from another profile. Changing a password or disabling the lock also requires the profile’s current unlock method.
- Repeated incorrect passwords introduce a waiting period. After five wrong attempts, further attempts must wait. The delay increases with additional failures and remains in effect after restarting WebLibre.
- Choose another profile from the lock screen, even when the startup profile picker is disabled, as long as another profile exists.
- Improved handling of fingerprint/PIN prompts to avoid unnecessary relocking, with clearer feedback when password checks fail or are interrupted.
Important: A profile password locks access through WebLibre; it does not encrypt the profile’s data on your device. Forgotten profile passwords cannot be recovered in the app. The password used to encrypt a backup file is separate from the profile password.
More control over browsing-data deletion
- Choose when automatic deletion happens. The new “Also Delete on Start” setting lets you delete selected browsing data only when you use Quit, or also when WebLibre starts. Existing automatic-deletion settings continue to include startup cleanup unless you turn this option off.
- Interrupted Quit cleanup is remembered and retried. If deletion fails or WebLibre closes before finishing, unfinished cleanup is retried on a later start—even for data selected just for that Quit, and even when routine startup deletion is disabled.
- “Don’t ask again” now remembers your cleanup choices. Categories selected alongside this option become part of future automatic Quit cleanup. The dialog explains whether those choices also apply on startup.
- Recovery of unfinished tab deletion targets the tabs from the original cleanup request, rather than unrelated tabs opened afterward.
Tip: Quit-only deletion runs when you use WebLibre’s Quit action. Swiping the app away or Android closing it in the background does not trigger that cleanup; keeping “Also Delete on Start” enabled covers those sessions on the next start.
Browsing improvements
- Websites installed as apps now remember desktop or mobile mode from the tab used during installation. To record your preferred mode for an existing installation, reinstall it from a tab using that mode.
- Fixed the auto-hiding toolbar unexpectedly reappearing while scrolling or reading a page.
- Improved tab handling after startup: cleared tabs no longer leave stale saved entries, while tabs opened during startup retain their saved details.
- Improved Reader View’s handling of potentially unsafe article content and preservation of the article’s language.
- Updated the browser engine from Gecko 155 to Gecko 157.
Backup and restore improvements
- Restoring a backup as a new profile now preserves the profile lock saved in that backup. For device-locked profiles, WebLibre first checks that authentication works on the current device.
- Improved backup restoration from shared storage on affected Android systems, with more useful error details when a backup cannot be read.
- Strengthened the saving of recovery information for interrupted profile restore operations.
