github FaFre/WebLibre v0.40.0-alpha-6

pre-release7 hours ago

This update brings more flexible tab controls, useful new actions in History, clearer privacy settings, and improvements to keep browsing responsive during longer sessions.

Tab controls where you want them

  • Choose the quick tab switcher’s position. Place it above or below the address bar, or below the contextual toolbar at the bottom of the screen. When placed next to the address bar, it follows the address bar’s top or bottom position. Find the new Switcher Position setting in the toolbar layout settings.
  • Move tab-view controls within thumb reach. The new Tab View Actions at the Bottom option puts search, filters, view selection, and tab actions at the bottom, with the new-tab button just above them. This works in list, grid, and tree views.
  • Fixed the expanded tab panel being covered by the top toolbar.
  • Leaving tab search now clears its search field, so reopening it starts fresh.

Clearer privacy settings and more control when quitting

  • “Incognito Mode” is now “Delete Browsing Data Automatically.” The name better explains what this setting does. Your existing selection is preserved.
  • Automatic deletion now runs when you choose Quit, as well as whenever WebLibre starts. Startup cleanup also covers sessions that ended through a crash, Android closing the app, or removing it from recent apps.
  • Choose extra data to delete just this once. Expand Delete browsing data in the Quit confirmation to select what to clear for that exit, without changing your automatic-deletion preferences. Data already selected for automatic deletion is clearly marked.
  • Choose whether Quit asks for confirmation. Use Don’t ask again in the dialog or the new Confirm Before Quitting setting. Long-pressing Quit skips the confirmation and still applies your automatic-deletion choices.
  • Improved cleanup reliability: a problem clearing one kind of data no longer prevents the remaining selected kinds from being attempted.
  • Fixed cases where tabs or download-list entries cleared through browsing-data deletion could return after restarting.
  • Startup tab cleanup now targets the previous session’s tabs, protecting newly opened links and home-page tabs from being removed.

More useful History and Downloads

Each entry now has a More actions menu instead of a standalone delete button.

  • Open a history entry in the background without leaving History, with an option to switch to the new tab afterward.
  • Copy or share a link directly from History.
  • Copy or share a download’s source link from the Downloads list.
  • Delete individual entries through the same menu.

Smoother browsing and more reliable feeds

  • Reduced memory buildup during long sessions, especially when repeatedly opening and closing tabs or using add-ons.
  • More responsive AI tab-group suggestions with large tab collections, reducing freezes while suggested groups are calculated.
  • Smoother searching through long histories and feed collections. Feed-search results also avoid being replaced by results from an older query while you type.
  • More reliable feed article processing. Large backlogs are handled in smaller batches, temporary failures are retried, and a troublesome article no longer blocks the rest.
  • Fixed a timing issue where an article updated during a feed refresh could end up with older reading or search text.
  • Reduced pauses when sharing or saving page screenshots, and removed unnecessary extra processing when importing wallpapers.
  • Improved add-on toolbar updates so labels, badges, and available actions reflect the selected tab more consistently.
  • Improved reliability when switching into or out of Reader View.

Interface polish

  • Download prompts and prompts for links that require another app now appear at the bottom of the screen.
  • Menus and website icons have more consistent rounded corners.
  • Fixed status and navigation bar appearance on Android 14 and earlier, including hard-to-see navigation buttons in the light theme.
  • Added translations for the new controls and messages in German, Spanish, Indonesian, Russian, and Chinese.
