github FaFre/WebLibre v0.40.0-alpha-10

This release makes browser customization easier, gives you clearer bookmark choices, and fixes problems with new tabs, voice search, and links that can open other apps.

Easier gesture and toolbar customization

  • Search for actions when configuring gestures, toolbar long-press actions, or the button shown when another button is unavailable. Search matches action names, descriptions, and related terms.
  • Actions now use consistent names and icons across customization screens.
  • More actions to assign: scan a QR code, start voice search, open text-size controls, open the browser menu, and turn drawn gestures on or off.
  • QR scans and spoken searches appear in the search field for you to review before opening a page or submitting a search.
  • Clearer messages confirm when an action bookmarks a page, pins a tab, or switches gestures on or off. You also get an explanation when Reader Mode or a home-screen shortcut is unavailable, or automatic text sizing prevents a manual adjustment.

Two ways to bookmark a page

  • Add bookmark opens the bookmark editor so you can choose a name and folder. If the page is already bookmarked, it opens the existing bookmark for editing instead of removing it.
  • Quick bookmark saves or removes a bookmark immediately, without opening the editor. It is also available for swipes on tabs in the tab overview.
  • Both choices are available in the search screen’s Actions results.

Changed behavior: existing “Bookmark” gesture, keyboard-shortcut, and long-press assignments now open the editor. This includes the default Ctrl+D shortcut. Choose Quick bookmark if you prefer the previous one-step behavior. The toolbar’s bookmark button keeps its one-step behavior.

More reliable tabs and links

  • Reopen Closed Tab reaches further back: once the immediate undo is no longer available, the action restores the newest entry from Recently Closed Tabs. Repeated shortcut presses are handled in order, and a message tells you when nothing remains to restore.
  • Duplicating a tab or opening a private copy through an action now follows your background-tab preference: stay on the current page with a Switch button, or switch immediately.
  • Fixed links intended for a new tab replacing the page you were reading when you chose to stay in WebLibre after an app-opening prompt.
  • If another app cannot open a link, its alternative web page also respects the request for a new tab. These tabs preserve the original tab’s private-browsing status and separate cookies.
  • Automatic alternative pages opened by background tabs no longer pull you away from your current tab.
  • Website-opened tabs and pop-ups now stay with the container of the page that opened them, rather than being placed in whichever container happens to be selected.
  • Fixed a case where an alternative web link from a sandboxed search page could bypass its sandbox protections.

Clearer container settings

  • A new Isolation section groups Cookie Isolation with the settings that depend on it.
  • The editor now explains whether a container shares cookies or has its own, and makes clear that this choice is fixed when the container is created.
  • Tapping an unavailable isolation-dependent setting explains why it is locked and how to use it in a new container.
  • The browser menu now shows that containers without cookie isolation follow the browser-wide connection settings, rather than leaving their connection row out.

Everyday fixes and updates

  • Reduced home-screen jumping as shortcuts, recent tabs, quotes, and other sections finish loading.
  • Fixed voice search sometimes losing recognized text when multiple microphone buttons were present. Rapid repeat taps no longer start competing speech dialogs.
  • Fixed Android’s bottom navigation bar losing the correct appearance or layout after returning to WebLibre on Android 10 and earlier.
  • Updated Mozilla browser components to 158.0.2 and built-in Tor to 0.4.9.14.
