github FOGProject/fogproject 1.6.0-RC-4

The fourth release candidate for FOG 1.6.0 is available on the rc-1.6.0 branch. It reports version 1.6.0-RC-4.

Test it on a lab or non-production server first. The upgrade from 1.5 to 1.6 is one-way: it changes the database schema, and there is no down-migration.

Upgrade from RC-3 now if you delete images or snapins from the web UI. RC-3 can delete the image or snapin files on the storage node even when you clear the "remove file data" box.

Fixed since RC-3

  • A cleared "remove file data" box still deleted the files (#1819). On the image or snapin delete dialog, if you checked the box and then cleared it, the server still deleted the files on the storage node. Separately, the server treated an explicit "no" from the dialog as "yes". Both are fixed. A cleared box now keeps the files.
  • Every snapin failed with "Hash does not match" when the storage node was unreachable (#1817). A failed snapin download returned HTTP 200 with an error message as the body. The legacy client saved that message as the snapin, and the hash check failed with the same wrong hash on every retry. The server now returns an HTTP error status instead of the message, and the cause is in the reply.
  • The installer did not repair the service account's home directory (#1820). The installer created the service account's home directory (by default /home/fogproject) only when it created the account. If the directory was later removed, vsftpd refused every login with "cannot change directory", and snapin downloads and FTP transfers failed. A re-install did not fix it. The installer now creates the directory and sets its owner on every run.
  • A failed schema update gave no reason (#1812). The installer printed Updating Database....Failed! and showed unrelated log lines. It now writes the server's reply and the failed schema steps to the installer error log.
  • "On Server Size" showed 0 iB after a capture (#1814). The server now records the image size when the upload finishes. Before, the size appeared only after the next FOGImageSize pass, up to an hour later. This field is informational. FOGImageSize re-measures it, and it can show 0 if the service cannot read the image on the master node.

Before you upgrade

Install or update (as root)

  • A 1.6 beta or RC server: run bin/updatefog.sh --channel rc from your FOG checkout.
  • A 1.5 server installed from git: update to the current 1.5 stable, then run bin/updatefog.sh --channel rc from the checkout.
  • A new server, or a 1.5 server installed from a tarball:
    curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/FOGProject/fogproject/working-1.6/bin/bootstrap.sh | bash -s -- --channel rc
