What's Changed

Changed

  • Complete rewrite in Rust, bringing more robustness and performance.
  • New TUI interface for improved user experience and understanding.
  • tweak command is now accessible via the configure command, as the UVC Tweaker tool.
  • Better balance between configuration search time and exhaustiveness.
  • Full rootless capabilities.
  • --config, --log and --grey-devices cannot be combined with each other or with a command anymore.

Added

  • More debug commands to help users to report issues: --config, --log, --grey-devices.
  • migrate command to migrate the configurations from the v6 to the v7 format.
  • setup-howdy command to integrate with howdy in PAM, and to allow the polkit password prompts, sandboxed since polkit 126.
  • When executed by PAM, the run command uses the configuration of the user being authenticated, so the PAM line does not need --config.
  • Prebuilt binary for ARM 64-bit (aarch64) processors.

Fixed

  • The devices are identified by their USB vendor, product, serial number, interface and index, instead of their /dev/v4l/by-path/ path, for better persistence. The configurations saved with a /dev/... path by the beta versions are still applied, and are replaced when configuring the device again. This fixes the IR camera not enabled after a reboot when it shares its USB device with the RGB camera.

Removed

  • OpenCV is not used anymore for capturing V4L video stream, because of unreliability, and compatibility issues across distro.
  • Removing test command.
