r3dfox v144.0.1 for Vista+

one day ago

NOTE: There are a bunch of changes made to this build which may break compatibility with websites and may change default settings. These are from Librewolf, which changes have mostly been integrated into r3dfox. The below are the most notable.

You should probably back up your current profile before trying this in case you want to go back to old settings and compare. Profile folder in browser folder if using portable version, or active profile in about:profiles if using installer version.

Enhanced Tracking Protection defaults to strict now. Other options are removed to match Librewolf behavior. If strict breaks websites, I can undo this change. You can set this back to standard by going to about:config, and setting browser.contentblocking.category to standard.

dom.webaudio.enabled, dom.webgpu.enabled, webgl.disabled, are disabled and more may also break stuff.

I am too tired to finish this part. This link has more stuff that may or may not have broken a given website that works in 142/143 but not 144. b4d2dfa (mostly modules/libpref/init/StaticPrefList.yaml)

The portable builds are fully portable, the profile directory is inside the browser folder. It does not touch appdata at all.

Requirements to use the browser on a given OS:
Vista: Service Pack 2 + KB971644 Platform Update
7 RTM/SP0 and later: Should just work.

Notable bugs:
The 32 bit build is built with --disable-sandbox. With the sandbox enabled under Vista, the browser fails to open multiple processes which breaks the browser. The 64 bit build is fine. Considering Mypal68 globally disables the sandbox, I don't think it's that bad. If this really is a big issue then please pr a fix.

Cairo/GDI backend ignores system cleartype settings and causes crashes on older versions of Windows and crashes without e10s.

r3dfox specific changes on top of the previous v143.0b8-hotfix build:
(I am too tired to sort this)
Enhanced Tracking Protection defaults to strict now. Other options are removed to match Librewolf behavior. If strict breaks websites, I can undo this change.
Brought in a bunch of settings from Librewolf, new Extra Configurations category in settings.
Added settings to disable same-origin policy and CORS.
Disabled drop to pin tab.
Fixed Override caption/window text color setting not applying to caption buttons with Windows 10 (Modern) version theme override.
Removed erroneous separators in non-native browser UI.
Menubar is enabled by default without re-enabling when a window is opened. (Fixing this is the reason I merged Librewolf changes into r3dfox lol)
Added setting for Security Sandbox Content Level to fix native UI elements on Windows 10.
Translations should be fixed now.
Improved browser branding
Further reduced telemetry
Now includes uBlock Origin out of the box
Default search engine is now DuckDuckGo
New (better) DoH provider list.
Prefetching/preloading of webpages and web content is disabled.
Popups are disabled, and open in new tab always.
Disabled potential security vulnerabilities and annoying aspects of browser. (Webpages can no longer change window size for example.)
Bookmarks bar is enabled by default now. (I kinda only did it because Librewolf does it, idk if this will stick around)
Location should* be fixed now (I am too schizo to test)
Made a ton of preference changes. This and this

Haven't tested on XP (OCAPI) nor have I extensively stability tested.

Please let me know what bugs or issues you encounter with it.
