RDRVR 0.8.0: faster, and a few fixes. Install as before: RedHook first (its DirectX hook off), then Install.cmd from the zip. Your settings carry over.
Performance
- Batched hand-off to the GPU thread (new, on by default; the General tab, Performance): the game's render thread now hands its recorded work to its GPU thread in batches instead of one command at a time. About 2.5-3 ms less CPU a frame in the developer's tests, about a fifth of the stereo frame; nothing is drawn differently.
- Shadows drawn once for both eyes (new, on by default; same place): the sun's, lamps' and spot lights' shadows are drawn once a frame for both eyes instead of once per eye. About 0.9 ms less CPU a frame; shadow edges can move by a texel.
- Together, in the developer's Quest 3 over Virtual Desktop at 3926 x 2208 with DLSS Quality: 90 Hz held, the scene about 4.9 ms of CPU a frame.
- Eyes in the headset's shape with DLSS (new menu row, off by default; the General tab, under the anti-aliasing, while DLSS is chosen; from the next start): each eye rendered smaller in your headset's shape and upscaled by DLSS. In the same headset it looked as sharp and took about a quarter less GPU time (6.9 to 5.05 ms a frame).
Fixes
- On horseback, turning your view with the right stick now turns the holsters with you (they used to keep facing the horse); recentring faces them back.
- Dual wield: the second revolver drawn from a hip set to automatic is the one that holster shows, and the holster is empty while you hold it (it could keep showing a revolver while you held another).
- The render resolution's start-up check is kept per VR runtime: a start that ended early under one runtime no longer drops another to the game's own size.
- Two-handed long guns: the gun frame the front hand and the rings use is no longer a frame off during a shot while riding (up to about a centimetre).
- The installer's window stays open until you press a key. If it stops on an error, it says why, and
%TEMP%\RDRVR_install.loghas everything it printed. It changes nothing if a file it would replace is in use (the game, its crash reporter or a virus scan). The uninstaller keeps any backup an unfinished install made.
For bug reports
RDRVR.loggets a second timing line every 10 s (each eye's pass, the waits between the game's threads): attach the log if the frame rate drops.- The
[two] a shot two-handedlines now measure the front hand as your eyes see it.
