RDRVR 0.7.0

RDRVR 0.7.0: the horse whistle on by default (and with a gun raised), turning on horseback, the satchel at your wrist, throwing by letting go, new holster options, and a guide to every menu setting in the README.

The new features and fixes were tested in the developer's OpenXR simulator, not yet in a headset. The README now has a Menu guide: every tab and setting, what it does and its default.

On by default

  • Horse whistle: put a hand to your mouth and pull its trigger (the Gestures tab, "Whistle for the horse"; was off in 0.6.0). It now works with the off hand while the other hand holds a raised gun: the game will not whistle while aiming, so the aim is let go for under a second first, and no shot fires meanwhile.
  • The right stick turns the view on horseback (the Comfort tab, under "Steer with the stick"): snap or smooth, as on foot, while the left stick still steers the horse. Mounting and recentring face the horse again; the holsters stay with the horse.
  • The game's menus by the controllers: in the satchel, the pause menu and shops, the triggers change tabs and the left stick moves one item a push instead of racing through the list ([Controls] MenuControls).
  • Shops in first person: talking to a shopkeeper no longer takes the view to third person ([Body] KeepAnchorCamera, tried at a shop only). Other scripted cameras outside cutscenes stay in first person too, not yet tried in missions: if one looks wrong, set KeepAnchorCamera=0 in RDRVR.user.ini and please report it.
  • The front hand's pose per long gun (the Gun in hand tab, "The front hand's pose"): every long gun now uses the game's aiming hold for the front hand, its fingers too. Choose lowered, or Automatic (the 0.6.0 way) per gun.

Fixes

  • The lasso is held in your hands: the coil in the off hand, the loop in the gun hand (it floated about 25 cm in front of them).
  • With dual wielding, a second gun drawn from a back holster is that holster's gun (a sidearm in hand made every back holster give the same gun).
  • A long gun held partly down no longer flips its front hand between holds (with the front hand's pose on Automatic).
  • With "Long guns held by their aiming grip" on, the front hand snaps to the gun as it is drawn, not to the game's gun that each shot moves in John's hand ([Reload] SnapToDrawnGun). An attempted fix for the front hand ending in the gun or in the air after a shot: please report.

New, off by default

  • The satchel at your wrist (the General tab, under "HUD on the left wrist"): with the wrist HUD in view, two quick taps of the off hand's Y open John's satchel, B closes it. A single tap stays Y for the game, about a third of a second late ([Controls] SatchelTapMs, 350 ms).
  • Throw by letting go of the grip (the Gestures tab, under "Throw by hand"): hold the grip to hold the throwable, pull the trigger to light or ready it, swing and let go (tried with dynamite and the throwing knife).
  • Holster options (the Holsters tab): turn with your headset (with a dead zone), or by your head and hands; steady when you lean; steady holster edges; rings only near a hand; place the holsters by hand (grip a ring and move it).
  • Sidearms held by their aiming grip (the Hands tab): a test for a revolver that lags your hand; please report whether it helps.
  • The eye shape with DLSS (experimental, ini only, from the next start): [XR] EyeShapeDlss=1 with EyeShape=1 in %LOCALAPPDATA%\RDRVR\RDRVR.user.ini. Each eye rendered in your headset's shape and upscaled by DLSS into it; about 13-15% less GPU time at the same resolution in the simulator.
  • An experimental holster model at the hips ([Holsters] ShowModels, ini only; it still looks like a strap).

For bug reports, RDRVR.log now records: each two-handed shot ([two] a shot two-handed: how far the front hand moved on the gun), how far the gun in hand trails the wrist ([follow] auto, every 10 s), each sidearm draw's barrel direction (BACKWARDS when it points back), and other characters' shots.

Install: RedHook v0.8 first (https://www.nexusmods.com/reddeadredemption/mods/192, with [DirectXHook] Disabled=true in its RedHook.ini), then unzip RDRVR-0.7.0.zip and run Install.cmd. Your settings in %LOCALAPPDATA%\RDRVR are kept.
