1.6.8
- Now Playing: a title or artist too long to fit now pauses at its start before each scroll, as it does at its end. It used to jump back to the start and scroll on at once.
- Controls: a title too long for the Play/Pause hold menu now scrolls as Now Playing's does, pausing at its start and its end. It used to run to its end and stay there.
- Display: a long title that scrolls, on any page, now rests on its start for a moment before it moves, scrolls at Now Playing's pace, and rests on its end before it goes back to the start. Most used to race to the end and wait there.
- Display: Theme: Modern's Home menu is in Shanling's own font again, as before 1.5.8. Its Now Playing title stays bold.
- Display: the Theme list is in the order Minimal, Modern, Classic.
- Display: under Theme: Modern the battery icon is green only while charging, as in Minimal. It used to be green at every level.
- Display: under Theme: Classic with Light Mode off, the battery icon's outline is dark, as the bar is. It used to be light grey.
- Display: under Theme: Classic the USB, Updating Library, slider, Set Time and Date and lock info screens have a flat background instead of a gradient.
- Now Playing: Theme: Classic no longer shows the play/pause symbol over the album art, as Minimal doesn't. Modern still does.
- Display: with square album art (Theme: Modern with Rounded Corners off, and Theme: Classic), the grey disc shown for an album with no art is square too, in Cover Flow, Now Playing, the full-screen art and album lists. Its corners stayed rounded.
- Now Playing: under Theme: Classic the album art is larger and turned at an angle with its reflection under it, the place in the queue ("25 of 40") is under the album, and the progress bar is the iPod's, thicker, with larger times on either side of it, as on an iPod classic. The bar is as wide as each track's times allow: widest under ten minutes, a little narrower up to an hour, narrowest for longer tracks. While you scrub, a diamond on the bar marks the point.
- Now Playing: under Theme: Classic the info page is a list: each name on the left and its value on the right in grey, a long value ending in an ellipsis.
- Streaming: under Theme: Classic Spotify's and Internet Radio's Now Playing look like the local one: the art turned at an angle over its reflection, the title, artist and album in the same places, and the iPod's bar with the times beside it. Internet Radio shows a station cover, the stream where "25 of 40" sits, and a full bar with the time it has played.
- Now Playing: under Theme: Classic turning the volume shows it on the progress bar between two speakers, in place of the times, as on an iPod classic. The "Volume 40" line under the bar, small and hard to read, is gone. Minimal and Modern still show it.
- Library: under Theme: Classic Playlists is a list like Songs: two-line rows with each playlist's song count, quiet dots for More, and New Playlist… and Edit Playlists… at the top; the list opens on its first playlist, or the one last chosen. The black toolbar is gone and the title bar names the page. A tap on a playlist's
>opens it. Edit Playlists holds Select All, Import, Export and Delete as rows naming how many you've marked; Select All reads Deselect All once every playlist is marked, and Return leaves it without leaving the page. New Playlist and Rename have the keyboard's look; Add to Playlist has no dots and starts with New Playlist…, and More and Add Songs lose an empty gap and an extra first line. - Library: back from an opened playlist keeps your row, and going back past Add to Playlist no longer leaves the Playlists page looking like the picker.
- Library: under Theme: Classic the Library's first row is Search, which opens the search with the keyboard up, as pulling the list down does. In Home's Split list the pull was easy to miss.
- Display: under Theme: Classic confirm prompts have a two-part Cancel and OK control, deleting a playlist asks in a dark tray over the page, the Play/Pause hold menu and its Shuffle, Repeat and Group by open at once on a panel in the middle of the screen, styled like Cover Flow's track list, and toasts are a small box instead of a whole screen. Pages open with the usual quick slide, and dialogs and menus appear at once.
- Display: under Theme: Classic the lock screen is an information screen: the date on a dark bar, a clock tray with a face beside the time (Standard) or the large time alone (Large), and the song on a tray, over the wallpaper.
- Display: under Theme: Classic the T9 keyboard has its own keys and search field, and Search its own strip, tabs and two-line rows. Search and the search boxes of Spotify, Internet Radio, card apps and the playlist editor have the flat dark bar behind their field, and a long search hint fits its box.
- Search: under Theme: Classic the highlighted tab (Songs, Artists, Albums, Genres) fills its place in the tab bar, with no gap beside or under it. The X beside each past search no longer has a broken white frame on the highlighted row: it is white there and dark on the other rows, as bold as the theme's other marks. Past searches sit right under the search field, with no empty band above them where the tabs show with results.
- Display: under Theme: Classic Quick Settings is its own page: rounded buttons on the colour of Home's pane, silver in Light and dark grey in Dark when off, blue when on whatever the accent, and a new brightness bar with a knob. The volume over any page but Now Playing is a glossy panel with the bar between two speakers. The fast-scroll letter looks the same in Light and Dark.
- Display: under Theme: Classic the page name and the battery sit a little further in from the screen's rounded corners, so they no longer touch its edge.
- Streaming: under Theme: Classic Streaming opens as a list beside the pane on Home, as Library and Settings do, and the pane shows the highlighted service's icon and name. Home's Full and Carousel keep the Streaming page. Streaming's pages have the theme's rows.
- Display: under Theme: Classic Lock Screen, Sleep Timer, Update Library, More and Queue lose the black toolbar, and the title bar names them. Lock Screen's and Sleep Timer's switch is a row that reads On or Off. Their rows, Go to's and Special Folders' are the theme's smaller rows; More's Speed row stays taller to fit its buttons.
- Library: under Theme: Classic Update Local Music and USB mode have their own screens: a round icon, with the count and a progress bar while the library updates ("312 of 704 songs", against the songs it had before; the first scan shows the plain count). Connected says to eject before disconnecting under USB Storage.
- Display: under Theme: Classic slider pages, Set Time and Set Date, Update Local Music, USB mode and the lock screen have the flat dark bar in Light and Dark alike. The slider pages' text is the size the design calls for, and the rating panel has its own hearts.
- Settings: under Theme: Classic Set Time and Set Date are new: a clock face or a calendar tile beside the fields, in 24 and 12-hour forms. The wheel, Centre or a tap on Save finishes.
- Cover Flow: under Theme: Classic the side covers sit at the iPod's angle and spacing, three a side with no darkening, over longer reflections.
- Cover Flow: under Theme: Classic Centre turns the cover over to the album's tracks: the album and artist on a header that stays as the list scrolls, and each song's length once Long Songs has measured it. Return turns it back. Minimal and Modern keep the text list.
- Display: under Theme: Classic going a level deeper in a card app, an artist's albums, Photos or a folder pushes the new list in from the right, and Return pushes the level above back in from the left.
- Display: under Theme: Classic a card app's QR page is dark on a white plate in Light Mode too, and the keyboard over a Spotify, card app, radio or playlist search has the theme's look. Beside a page's title a 12-hour clock drops AM or PM, so the two don't run together.
- Display: under Theme: Classic a list that scrolls keeps a thin thumb at its right edge, in place of stock's bar that faded. A list that doesn't scroll has none.
- Display: under Theme: Classic an empty list says so on the page while the title bar keeps the page's name, and Hold Return reaches Home's main list from under Library, Streaming or Settings.
- Controls: a short Return straight after a Hold Return that went Home could do nothing the first time. It now works on the first press.
- Cover Flow: under Theme: Classic the wheel holds the covers directly. Turn slowly and a cover stays part-way until you let go, then settles without a stutter; a cover moving in no longer swells towards you or swings past its place. Turn faster and they speed up smoothly to at most 20 albums a second in a narrower row, the caption going on ahead. Keep spinning that fast for a moment and, sorted by album or artist, they go by letters as Minimal's do: the big letter shows and the covers jump to each letter's first album. Once letters start, keep turning at a gentler pace to step through them one at a time; slow right down and they go album by album again from that letter's album. Let go and they land on the album the caption names. Wheel Sensitivity scales it as it does other lists, and the art no longer jumps as a spin starts or stops.
- Audiobooks: Chapters in the Now Playing hold menu is offered for any file in Podcasts or Audiobooks, such as an MP3 with chapters, not only an
.m4b. On a CUE track of an.m4b, it lists that track's chapters at that track's times, and jumps to the right place. Chapters stored out of order are listed in order, where the list said "Could not read chapters". - View Queue: deleting a song while Shuffle Songs, Shuffle Albums or a Repeat mode is on keeps your Play Next songs and what Previous goes back to. Deleting the song that's playing, Previous goes to the one before it. Next no longer plays past the end of the shorter queue.
- Streaming: hiding or showing a service for the first time no longer saves stray characters with the list of hidden services.
- Books: an EPUB whose chapters link to a folder beside their own (
../) gets every chapter, not only the first. - Books: going back a page in a book with damaged text no longer reads beyond the book's text.
- Card apps: a press made just as an app's page refreshes, or shows an error, does nothing, where it could act on another row or stop the app.
- EQ: a Preamp picked for a preset whose file name is longer than 63 characters now stays with that preset.
- Cover Flow: a large library's first open no longer freezes until the Q2 restarts.
- Library: Update Local Music no longer runs out of memory on Opus or Ogg files carrying very large embedded pictures; their tags are read without the pictures, and showing their covers no longer risks it either.
- System: q2-crash.log names the file a library update or Cover Flow's artwork build was reading and shows how the Q2's memory grew during it, and it now also covers the player ending on its own without an error.
- Library: under Theme: Classic the large letter that shows while you spin quickly through a list no longer appears over the Library menu beside Home's pane (Era, Recently Added, Hi-Res and the rest), which isn't in alphabetical order. Songs, Artists, Albums and other long lists still show it.
- Library: under Theme: Classic an artist's albums in the grid each have their own row again, with the album's name under its cover. The selected album showed as a plain blue block, its name hidden and its cover cut short.
- Library: an artist with no name has "Unknown Artist" as its page's title, where it read "(null)".
