1.4.8
- Spotify: when Spotify refuses to unlock your account's tracks, the Q2 now says so ("Spotify refused this account") within a second, instead of "Loading…" and, 15 s later, "Playback didn't start". It also stops librespot skipping through your whole playlist meanwhile. Spotify does this to some accounts, mostly new ones, and nothing on the Q2 can change it; another Premium account may work.
- Battery: Tidal's helper sleeps until a Tidal track is asked for and goes back to sleep once it starts. Before, opening Tidal once kept it waking 5 times a second, through local music too, until Stop Streaming Services. A linked Bluetooth device whose buttons the Q2 can't find no longer wakes the player 5 times a second, and the player stops checking the memory card every 5 seconds while the screen is off.
- Battery: a Bluetooth headset that doesn't report its own volume is asked for it every 2 seconds instead of 2.5 times a second. With the screen off and a volume limit set, the Q2 checks the headset's volume once a second instead of 2.5 times, so the headset's own buttons can go past the limit for up to a second before it's pulled back. Spotify's browser left open with the screen off no longer keeps Spotify running: after 30 seconds paused (2½ minutes if nothing has played yet) it closes and Spotify stops, as when you leave the browser. A video paused for 30 seconds now closes, keeping your place, instead of after 5 minutes, so the screen can turn off. If the memory card keeps refusing to save the queue, the Q2 tries again every 30 seconds instead of every 5.
- Tidal: playlists, albums and My Collection's Tracks show every track, up to 2,000, instead of stopping at 50. Stock asks Tidal for 50 at a time; playlists and albums never asked for more, and favourite tracks only did when you dragged the touchscreen to the end of the list. A long list takes longer to open, as each 50 is another request.
- Tidal Downloads: a track played from the card shows its artist and album, and its cover for FLAC (Lossless and above), instead of Unknown Artist and the placeholder (#102). Tidal sends its files without tags, so each download is now tagged from the Tidal track before it's saved. AAC downloads (Low and High quality) get the names but no cover. Tracks downloaded before this stay untagged until Clear All Downloads.
- Library: Playlists are listed alphabetically, not in the order they were made. Add to Playlist's list follows the same order.
- Folders: Shuffle, Play Next and Add to Queue on a held folder take in its subfolders too, so a folder of artists or albums shuffles everything in it. Before, they only took songs sitting directly in that folder, so a folder holding only subfolders left the queue unchanged. A very large folder takes a moment to gather.
- 2038: secure connections (scrobbling, Internet Radio, Update, Apps, lyrics and covers) keep working once the certificates built into the firmware expire, from 2035, and after the clock passes January 2038, where the Q2's 32-bit clock overflows. The iPod status bar clock and scrobble times stay right past 2038 too.
- iPod: a new accent, Green, after the green Q2. It comes after Plum in the Accent row.
