Edge-Drop v0.4.0: Welcome Tour, Notes and a Right-Click Menu, Redesigned Drag and Drop, and New File Icons

Edge-Drop v0.4.0 is the biggest update yet. It adds a welcome tour played by the real app, a right-click menu and searchable notes on every card, and drag and drop that opens the shelf straight into a drop zone. It also brings new frosted-glass file icons, link cards that say what a link is, every word in all 31 languages, and saved history that can never be overwritten.

A Welcome Tour, Played by the Real App Eight Short Steps: The tour shows the shelf at work on a laptop screen: copying, dragging in and out, stacks, preview, notes and search, and choosing your edge. In Your Language: It plays in your device's language. Your own language setting is never changed. Shown Once After Updating: Everyone who updates sees it once. Replay it any time from the tray menu with Replay Welcome Tour.	A Right-Click Menu on Every Card The Actions That Fit: Paste, paste as plain text, copy, add a note, pin, preview and delete, on every card. Per-Card Actions: Show a file in its folder or copy its path. Open a link, or copy it without its tracking parameters. Copy a color in its other formats (HEX, RGB, HSL). Save an image to Downloads.
Notes You Can Search One Note per Card: Right-click a card and choose Add note… to give it a short note, up to 120 characters. Found by Search: Search matches notes as well as text, file names and link titles, in any word order. Never Cleared: Noted cards are kept by auto-delete, Clear and clear-on-restart. Replaces Labels and Tags: Notes replace the old labels and tags, which carry over as notes.	Every Word, in 31 Languages Fully Translated: Every string in the app is translated, with the right plural forms ("1 file", "5 files"), sizes written the way each language writes them, and right-to-left layouts for Arabic, Hebrew and Persian.
Drag and Drop, Redesigned A Drop Zone That Meets You: Drag files, links or text from another app toward the edge. The edge bar swells as the drag comes near, and the shelf opens straight into a drop zone. No Flicker: The zone appears and hands back to your cards smoothly when you drop. Pull a File Out of a Stack: Drag it to the light on the screen edge and it becomes a card of its own.
New Frosted-Glass File Icons An Icon for Every Kind: Folders, PDFs, Word, Excel, slides, images, video, audio, archives, code, text, apps and other files each have their own icon. Folders Open on Hover: The folder tips open as your pointer rests on it. Open Stacks, Laid Out by Content: A photo grid for pictures, and a list with names and sizes for files.	History That Can't Be Lost Set Aside, Never Overwritten: If saved history can't be read, for example after Windows' encryption keys are lost or the profile moves to another PC, it's set aside. When it can be read again, it's merged back into your history. Atomic Saves: A crash or power cut mid-save can't cut your history short.
Smarter Cards for Links and Code Link Cards That Say What a Link Is: The site and the kind of page (for example "GitHub · Issue") with a readable title, for 400+ sites. Worked out offline: nothing is fetched. Syntax-Highlighted Code: Copied code (TypeScript, JavaScript, JSON, CSS, HTML, Python, Bash, SQL, Rust, Go, C++, C# and more) is highlighted on its card and shown in full, with line numbers, in the preview. Color Values in the Preview: A copied color shows its HEX, RGB and HSL values, each one click to copy.	A Calmer, Sharper Shelf Spring Motion: The shelf opens and closes with a spring, and its content fades in behind the shape. New Copy Indicator: It grows out of the edge bar itself. Redesigned Filter Bar: The emoji picker has its own button, and search has a clear button. One Look: One icon set and one style for every hover button. Open Delay: A new setting (0–1000 ms) makes the edge wait before opening, if instant hover feels too eager. New Sound Set and Regrouped Settings: A softer set of UI sounds, and settings grouped into clear sections in both docks.

Fixes and Performance

• Files copied in File Explorer are read natively instead of through PowerShell (about 300 ms down to under 1 ms). File names with non-English characters are no longer garbled or dropped.
• No more freezes on the first scroll or drag after launch.
• Switching emoji categories no longer stutters.
• Opening the shelf on the top edge no longer shows the cards empty for a moment.
• Lower CPU use while idle: the audio device is released 2 seconds after the last sound.
• Turning on Incognito in Settings now pauses clipboard capture.
• A few Cyrillic and Vietnamese letters now use the app's own fonts.
• The packages no longer include about 1 MB of unused build files.
• Updated to Electron 45 (Electron 34 is out of support).

Verification

• 901/901 automated tests passing.
• Clean typecheck.

Installation & Upgrades

Windows Package Installer (GitHub Release)

1. Download Edge-Drop-Setup-0.4.0.exe from the Assets section below.
2. Run the installer. If you are updating, your settings, pinned items and history are kept.
3. Edge-Drop starts minimized to the tray, and the welcome tour opens once. Move your pointer to your screen edge (or press Alt+C) to open the shelf.

The installer is not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may warn the first time you run it. Choose More info → Run anyway, or install from the Microsoft Store instead.
