NeuralNote v2.1.0

What's new in v2.1.0

Fixed: models failing to load when the user folder name has non-ASCII characters (Windows)

On Windows, if your user name contained non-ASCII characters (for example Japanese, Cyrillic or accented letters), the models folder path did too. Transcription then always failed with "The transcription model could not be loaded or run: not a valid muscriptor GGUF checkpoint", whatever the model size or compute device. The model path is now handled as UTF-8 throughout, so these paths load correctly. Fixes #203, #210 and #212.

Pause and resume transcriptions

The cancel button is now a pause button. Pausing keeps everything transcribed so far, and you can resume later from the point where it stopped, even after closing and reopening the plugin or your DAW session. That matters for long songs, which can take several minutes to transcribe. To throw a transcription away, use the bin button.

Logs and crash reports, to help diagnose problems

  • NeuralNote now writes a log file. In Settings → Logs you can set the log level and open the logs folder.
  • Windows: you can turn on crash reports in Settings → Crash reports. When it's on, NeuralNote saves a crash report (a minidump) in the crash reports folder whenever it crashes. It is off by default, and nothing is sent anywhere.
  • Debug symbols (dSYMs on macOS, PDBs on Windows) are now kept for every release build, so crash reports from released versions can be traced back to the code.

If NeuralNote crashes for you (see #201, #205 and #218, for example), please attach your log, and on Windows a crash report, to the issue.

Intel Mac installer

There is now an installer for Intel Macs: NeuralNote_Installer_Mac_x64.pkg. It has not been tested on an actual Intel Mac yet, so please report whether it works for you, good or bad.

New website

NeuralNote now has a website: https://damrsn.github.io/NeuralNote/. It's a non-technical overview of what NeuralNote does, with download links and an FAQ, and it's now the best link to share. The GitHub repo is still the place for technical details.

Support by email

If you don't have a GitHub account, you can now reach us by email. The address is on the website's contact section. If you do have one, GitHub issues are still the preferred way to report bugs.

Under the hood

  • Release installers are now built, signed and notarized by GitHub Actions instead of on a local machine.
