New
- A new launcher, and a little Easter egg for the upcoming GTA 6. The launcher is now a GTA-style
poster: a collage of the game's best moments, one from every chapter (the Great Mighty Poo, the
Panther King, Count Batula, Gregg, the sunflower, the war...), that flies together piece by piece as it
opens, before the logo lands on top. A celebration of GTA from one game that never behaved itself to
another. - Twin-stick aiming. Two new options on the General tab:
- Aiming: Swap Sticks (from CBFD-Recompiled): while you aim, the right stick aims and the left
stick moves, like a modern third-person shooter. - Aiming: Move While Shooting: with the shotgun, Conker keeps walking as he fires, where on the
N64 every shot stopped him for a second. He still waits as long between shots.
Together they give you proper twin-stick shooting.
- Aiming: Swap Sticks (from CBFD-Recompiled): while you aim, the right stick aims and the left
- Overhaul of the Aiming Crosshair. The red dot now only shows for guns that shoot straight (the
shotgun, the magnum), right in the middle where the shot goes. It's gone for thrown things like the
knives and the slingshot: they fly in an arc, so no single dot could be right at every distance. - German and Russian translations. Patched ROMs of the
German translation are accepted now, and the
launcher shows ROM: German. Turn the HD Icons pack off for it, as it would cover the German
pictures with English ones. The Russian translation is recognised too. - Conker's Detail (from CBFD-Recompiled, Graphics tab): Conker stays on his most detailed model,
instead of switching to a simpler one as the camera pulls back. - Aiming: Lock-On (from CBFD-Recompiled): switch off the game's aim lock-on if you'd rather aim
yourself. On is the original. - Free camera zoom. Click the right stick to switch between near, middle and far, handy without a
mouse wheel (on the Steam Deck, for example).
Improved
- The Modern preset now also turns on Swap Sticks, Move While Shooting, Ledge Grab, the Longer Tail
Spin and Conker's Detail. Classic keeps them all as on the N64. - The free camera keeps its distance. Taking over from the game's camera, it starts from where the
game's camera was, instead of jumping in close to Conker. - The free camera looks up further. Tilt it all the way down and keep going, and it looks up past
Conker. - Walk Button (Toggle L) now also works while Conker plays one of his idle animations (the yo-yo,
sitting down...).
Fixes
- The free camera no longer flickers next to objects. Pushing the metal box in It's War, the camera
jumped in and out every few frames. Now it holds still next to it. - Tapping L at the end of a cutscene no longer switches the walk on. The cutscene's fade to black
counted as play. - Ledge Grab no longer catches the sides of ramps and sloped ground. Real ledges, crates and boxes
still catch him as before. - Fixes from CBFD-Recompiled 0.1.6: a crash in very busy scenes, gaps in Conker's shadow, thin
lines between the pieces of some pictures, and the drunk blur with the smooth frame rate. - ROM hacks that change the game's pictures (like the German translation) are no longer refused:
the ROM check now looks at the game's code only.
Experimental
- The Overhaul of the Aiming Crosshair is tested with the shotgun. The game uses the same aiming for
some thrown things; if you see the dot while throwing, please tell me where. - Move While Shooting works with the shotgun only for now (the It's War guns are next), and for that
half second his legs keep the shooting pose: the game has no walk-and-shoot animation. - Ledge Grab (now on in Modern): Conker can still sometimes catch an edge that isn't really a
ledge, like the slanted side of a staircase. If you see it, please tell me where. - The German translation is tested with the intro and the speech bubbles; the Russian
translation is recognised but I haven't had its patch to test. - Still from before: the HD Icons (French) pack is incomplete (about 40 pictures still in English),
the keyboard and mouse button prompts are tested in the speech bubbles and the pause and save menus,
and Longer Breath, the Air Meter and Invert Swimming with a cog aren't tested everywhere.
If anything's off, please open an issue with what you were doing and a screenshot if you can.
The launcher's collage uses my own captures and some N64 screenshots from the
Conker Wiki.
