COMPASS v2.0.0

COMPASS 2.0.0 is a major rewrite: the UI has been redesigned from the ground up, the app is now cross-platform, and performance on large collections has been substantially improved. Feature parity with 1.8.x was reached during the beta phase, and all major features from 1.8.10 have been ported.

Upgrading from v1.x.x: 2.0.0 replaces your existing installation, and you cannot go back to v1.x.x without restoring a backup.
You can create a backup first via Settings → Manage Data → Backup user data.

Highlights

  • Cross-platform: Linux support via Flatpak (a .flatpak bundle is provided; Flathub availability is planned)
  • Complete UI/UX redesign: nearly every screen was reworked, from minor tweaks to full redesigns
  • Tabs: each tab holds its own collection with its own layout and active filters
  • Major performance gains: scrolling, filtering, sorting, and large-collection handling are considerably faster
  • Framework & platform modernization: frontend moved from WPF to Avalonia, upgraded to .NET 10

New Features

  • Tabs: have multiple collections open at once using multiple tabs, or the same collections with different filters active
  • Linux compatibility through Flatpak
  • ISBN barcode scanning, rebuilt and improved: choose which webcam to use and scan multiple codes before importing them all at once
  • Item descriptions now support markdown, rendered in the info panel
  • New option to open the edit window automatically when a folder import finishes

Improvements

  • Broad UX overhaul across almost every screen
  • Significant performance improvements when scrolling, filtering, and sorting
  • Improved performance on large collections
  • Major improvements to code quality and architecture
  • Multiple authors can now be added and removed in bulk edit
  • URL import accepts bare domains (e.g. google.com)
  • Metadata can be imported from file:// URLs
  • Folder import dialog simplified to a single screen instead of a wizard
  • "Show in Explorer" now shows a warning when the file or folder is not found, instead of failing silently
  • Improved responsiveness when cancelling background jobs such as imports
  • "Browse" for a file now opens the explorer at the previously used location
  • Tag background opacity reduced to 70%
  • Added a confirmation dialog before deleting a tag that is assigned to at least one item

Other Changes

  • Changed frontend framework from WPF to Avalonia
  • Upgraded to .NET 10
  • Changed license from GPLv3 to AGPLv3
  • Added a privacy policy
