v2.1.0 - License Compliance & PDFium Engine Migration

This release replaces the bundled Poppler library (GPL) with pypdfium2 (Apache-2.0 OR BSD-3-Clause) so that Every-PDF is now fully compatible with its MIT license. PDF-to-image conversion has been rewritten on top of Google's PDFium engine, and the macOS / Windows installers no longer ship any GPL-licensed binaries.

🛠️ Breaking Internals

• Poppler replaced with pypdfium2 in the PDF→image pipeline: pdf2image.convert_from_path() has been swapped for pypdfium2.PdfDocument.render(). PDFium is the same engine Chrome uses, so rendering quality and 300 DPI output remain identical.
• No more bundled GPL binaries: Approximately 98 MB of Poppler binaries (pdftoppm, pdftocairo, etc.) have been removed from backend/src/poppler/. The new engine ships its native library inside the Python wheel.
• No external system dependency: Users no longer need Poppler installed on their machine; everything is bundled into the app.

🐛 Bug Fixes

• PyInstaller bundling for native dependency hardened: Switched from a bare --hidden-import to --collect-all pypdfium2 / pypdfium2_raw so that libpdfium.dylib / pdfium.dll and the accompanying version.json data files are collected into the production bundle. Verified end-to-end against a real packaged .app / .exe.

⚙️ Code Refinement

• CI release workflow loosened: Changed npm ci → npm install in release.yml so that small lockfile drift between local npm and the runner's npm version no longer fails the release pipeline.
• Build artifacts no longer tracked: Added __pycache__/, *.pyc, backend/build/, backend/pdf_processor.spec, .DS_Store, and .omc/ to .gitignore, and untracked ~30 previously committed PyInstaller intermediates and Python bytecode files.
• Python requirement clarified in docs: README files now state Python 3.10+ as the requirement (the codebase has been using 3.10+ union type syntax for a while; the previous "3.9 or higher" line was misleading).
• License dialog refreshed: Updated the in-app library listing to reflect pypdfium2 instead of pdf2image, and bumped LICENSE copyright year to 2025-2026.

📜 License Notice

Every-PDF v2.1.0 and later are fully MIT-licensed with no GPL dependencies in the distributed binaries. Versions v2.0.x and earlier bundled Poppler (GPL-2/3) inside an MIT-licensed app, which created a license conflict that this release resolves. We strongly recommend upgrading to v2.1.0+ for any new deployments. See issue #15 for context.

이번 릴리즈는 번들된 Poppler 라이브러리(GPL)를 pypdfium2 (Apache-2.0 OR BSD-3-Clause)로 교체하여 Every-PDF가 자신의 MIT 라이센스와 완전히 호환되도록 정리한 버전입니다. PDF→이미지 변환은 Google의 PDFium 엔진 위에서 재작성되었고, macOS / Windows 배포물에서 GPL 라이센스 바이너리가 모두 사라졌습니다.

🛠️ 내부 엔진 교체

• PDF→이미지 파이프라인에서 Poppler를 pypdfium2로 교체: pdf2image.convert_from_path()를 pypdfium2.PdfDocument.render()로 대체했습니다. PDFium은 Chrome이 사용하는 엔진과 동일하며, 300 DPI 렌더링 품질은 그대로 유지됩니다.
• 번들된 GPL 바이너리 완전 제거: backend/src/poppler/에 포함되어 있던 약 98 MB 분량의 Poppler 바이너리(pdftoppm, pdftocairo 등)를 제거했습니다. 새 엔진은 네이티브 라이브러리를 Python wheel 내부에 동봉하므로 별도 배포가 필요 없습니다.
• 외부 시스템 의존성 제거: 사용자가 별도로 Poppler를 설치할 필요가 없습니다. 앱 안에서 모든 처리가 끝납니다.

🐛 버그 수정

• PyInstaller의 네이티브 의존성 번들링 강화: 기존의 단순 --hidden-import 방식을 --collect-all pypdfium2 / pypdfium2_raw로 교체하여 libpdfium.dylib / pdfium.dll과 함께 version.json 데이터 파일까지 배포 번들에 포함되도록 수정했습니다. 실제 패키징된 .app / .exe를 사용해 end-to-end 검증을 마쳤습니다.

⚙️ 코드 개선

• CI 릴리즈 워크플로 완화: release.yml의 npm ci를 npm install로 변경하여 로컬 npm과 runner의 npm 버전 차이로 인한 사소한 lockfile 불일치가 릴리즈 파이프라인을 막지 않도록 정리했습니다.
• 빌드 산출물 추적 해제: __pycache__/, *.pyc, backend/build/, backend/pdf_processor.spec, .DS_Store, .omc/를 .gitignore에 추가하고, 잘못 추적되고 있던 약 30개의 PyInstaller 중간 산출물과 Python 바이트코드 파일을 제거했습니다.
• Python 요구사항 표기 정리: README의 Python 요구 버전을 v3.10 이상으로 갱신했습니다. (코드베이스는 이미 한참 전부터 3.10+의 union 타입 문법을 사용하고 있었기 때문에 기존의 "3.9 이상" 표기는 부정확했습니다.)
• 라이센스 다이얼로그 갱신: 앱 내 라이브러리 목록에서 pdf2image 대신 pypdfium2를 표기하도록 수정했고, LICENSE 저작권 연도를 2025-2026으로 갱신했습니다.
