New Features

AgX Color Management

Like in Blender and darktable, RapidRAW now supports the advanced tone mapper AgX.

A thank you to darktable, Blender, and other open-source projects for providing reference implementation details and inspiring this integration.

Reworked Exposure Controls

Alongside the new tone mapper selector, the exposure controls have been significantly improved. The previous single slider has been split into two more powerful and intuitive controls:

  • Exposure: This slider now acts as a true exposure compensation, shifting the entire histogram. Use it to set the correct technical exposure for your scene.
  • Brightness: This slider, which functions like the old exposure control, primarily adjusts the mid-tones. Use it to fine-tune the perceived light in the image after setting the base exposure.

Copy & Paste Settings

You can now selectively copy and paste adjustments between images. This new setting gives you much better control when applying adjustments from one image to another, ensuring you only transfer the exact changes you want.

Key features include:

  • Selective Adjustments: Instead of an all or nothing paste, you can now individually select which adjustments to apply.
  • Powerful Paste Modes: Choose how your selected settings are applied:
    • Merge: Adds your copied changes on top of the destination image's existing edits, leaving other settings untouched.
    • Replace: Applies the selected adjustments and resets any unselected adjustments on the destination image to their default values. This is perfect for creating a consistent look from a clean slate.

Processing Engine Settings

A new Processing Engine Settings section is now available, giving you direct control over core processing options. You can now manually select the processing backend for performance tuning or troubleshooting. Additionally, a Linux GPU Compatibility Mode has been included to resolve stability issues and artifacts reported by some Linux users (as detailed in issue #306).

Core Improvements

Core Improvements

  • Moved more core parts from 8-bit (u8) to 32-bit float (f32) for increased precision.
  • Improved accuracy of the Color Mixer, which may cause some HSL-related edits to appear slightly different.
  • Faster image loading times.
  • RAW highlight recovery is now adjustable via the processing engine settings.

Highlight Recovery Value Comparison

High Highlight Recovery (may cause artifacts) Lower Highlight Recovery (clamps sensor values)

Note: High highlight recovery values can cause purple artifacts on some cameras, while lowering the value reduces artifacts but may also remove some highlight detail.

Running on macOS and Windows

Because RapidRAW is not yet code-signed, both macOS and Windows may show warnings when you try to run the app.

  • On macOS:
You’ll need to remove the quarantine flag after installation:

    xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/RapidRAW.app

Without this step, macOS may report the app as "corrupted."

  • On Windows:
When launching the app, you may see a Windows Defender SmartScreen warning.

    • Click "More info" → "Run anyway" to continue.
