Lau Setup 1.1.8 Hotfix — renamed-patch checks
A renamed Patch-Y could previously sit beside the installer-managed files and go unnoticed. Setup now checks active root Data and the selected language folder before downloading and again before installation, including a final check after staging.
- Detects distinctive Patch-Y member names, even without a listfile, and exact current-catalog patch copies by size and SHA-256. Renaming a file alone does not change its content hash.
- Stops on a possible overlap or an unreadable/unsupported candidate archive and names the affected file. Setup does not automatically delete or rename it. Keep a backup and resolve the named copy outside
Databefore retrying. - Required Q/M/S/Y placements and disabled filenames are excluded. Keep the installer's own patch names unchanged. The supplied game executable retains the inspected Billy patch-naming implementation; this hotfix does not change that executable.
- Uses bounded managed MPQ table reads: no extraction, decompression or additional DLL. This detects known signatures and exact copies, not every third-party conflict. Modified Q/M/S files can escape detection; other locales are not scanned. See coverage and limits.
Updating
Download the new LauSetup.exe or LauSetup-Wine.zip below. Close WoW, select the same client and options, and install. On Wine, extract all four files together and use LauSetup.sh as your normal user, following the included prerequisites.
Matching game files may correctly report already installed: this hotfix changes installer checks, not game content. The conflict check runs before that decision. File-content hashes still detect even one-byte payload changes. /pyversion remains 3.0.8 Lau.
Patch-S preservation from the earlier hotfix remains: off uses .mpq.disabled; on reuses matching disabled files and moves the plain disabled copy into verified backups. Use Restore previous install for recovery and keep LauSetupBackups.
Validation
Windows and Wine each passed 60 regression groups, including 108 locale/edition/map plans, renamed copies, missing listfiles, malformed archives, cancellation, conflicts introduced during staging, interrupted operations and exact rollback. Fresh anonymous public payload downloads passed on → off → on installation and stacked rollback on both platforms. The packaged Windows EXE and Wine launcher passed startup/preview-exit probes; functional GUI install/restore is covered by the regression suite.
All six real 3.0.8 Patch-Y archives were detected by their member markers. An existing HD client scan passed without false positives in 169 ms; this is one uncontrolled-cache measurement, not an HDD/SSD benchmark. Wine validation uses Wine 11.0 / Wine Mono 10.4.1, an existing 64-bit prefix, Python 3.9+ and local Linux storage. No new in-game encounter certification is claimed.
Documentation translations
The English guides and changelogs are current. Google rate-limited the full translation refresh, so all 117 translated pages carry a localized 1.1.8 notice and a link to the current English source. Older body text is explicitly labeled as an earlier snapshot. Full retranslation remains pending; no translation-success claim is made.
DBC and game-file changes
None. Game release stays 3.0.8 Lau. The executable, Q/M/S/Y payloads and raw six-edition Patch-Y ZIP are byte-identical to the preceding game release. All 90° cones, approved Halion radius, Coldflame and localized tables are preserved.

The installer is unsigned. Checksums, source, validation and the unchanged raw Patch-Y ZIP are attached. Raw Patch-Y files alone do not include Q/M/S or the full map/loading-screen installation.
