Security
- The latest security and bug fixes (at the time of this release) have been pulled in from the upcoming Gecko 140.10 ESR release, which will be generally available in two weeks' time.
Changes
- Waterfox is now testing a new feature: a built-in ad blocker that will be enabled by default in an upcoming release. It blocks ads out of the box using filter lists from EasyList, uBlock Origin, and AdGuard. It's available for early testing in this build and works safely alongside existing ad blocker extensions. You can find out how to enable it and submit feedback here: Native Ad Blocker - Feedback · Issue #4182 · BrowserWorks/waterfox. More information is available in the 15th anniversary blog post.
Tip
If you are happy with your current ad blocker, don't worry, you will still be able to use it! But please consider trying the built-in blocker to support Waterfox.
If you don't want to do that, please consider disabling your ad blocker on our default search partner (currently Startpage) - it helps fund Waterfox and keep it sustainable!
Known Issues
- Discord voice and video chat appear to still be having issues, even though we have patched what appears to be their technical requirement and user agent block.
- Various tree tab extension issues such as pinned tabs and other small UI issues (Note: this is being re-architected as a native feature, instead of a privileged web extension, which should resolve most of these issues).
Note
Please note, I am fully aware of all communications and filed bugs, even if I don't always reply. The majority of my time is spent on development, so unless an issue is absolutely urgent I won't reply.
🏝️ Out of Office
I'll be away from 11th April to 26th April for the first time since last summer, so there will be little to no contact during that time. The ESR 140.10 final release will still go out on 21st April as scheduled, so nothing will be left unpatched while I'm away and I'll be keeping an eye out for any emergencies!
