Editing is much faster, RAW files open without the window freezing, and text objects and colour tools gained a lot of new controls.

Faster

  • Effects render in milliseconds instead of seconds. Clarity, structure, dehaze, glow, grain, noise and sharpening each used to take several seconds. A photo with everything turned on now renders in under a second instead of half a minute.
  • Sliders respond immediately. All colour and tone adjustments are computed in one pass, so dragging a slider updates the preview roughly twenty times faster than before.
  • Opening an image no longer freezes the window, and the file is read once instead of twice. RAW files show their embedded preview right away and swap to the full development when it is ready; brush and retouch tools unlock at that point.

New

  • Camera calibration. The primary colours can be rotated and saturated individually, plus a shadow tint - the panel calls Calibration. A good part of a preset's characteristic look lives here and was ignored until now, so imported presets come out closer to the original.
  • Bold, italic and letter spacing for text objects.
  • New text path shape: circle, inverted - the letters are turned over so their feet point outward, as if lying on the inside of a ring. Watermarks can follow a text path now too.
  • Colour noise slider in the Details panel smooths colour speckle without touching detail.
  • RAW development from the sensor data when LibRaw is installed, with automatic .fpxmp sidecar files that remember your slider edits next to the RAW. The RAW itself is never modified.
  • Photoshop files (.psd/.psb) can be viewed and edited and exported to JPG/PNG/WEBP/PDF. They are never written back.
  • Sidebar tabs and favourites. The gallery sidebar is split into Folders, Immich and Favourites; folders, albums, people, places and saved searches can be pinned to Favourites, reordered and removed.

Better

  • Smoother gradients. Skies and skin tones no longer show banding, and the eight colour bands blend into each other instead of switching at a hard edge.
  • The colour noise slider works across its whole range - everything above roughly 30 used to look the same.
  • Circle text gets a square selection frame that actually fits the circle, instead of a frame standing far out around it.
  • Button rows in the object panel wrap onto a second line instead of cutting off the last button, and setting descriptions no longer run into the switches beside them.
  • The Noise and Dust/Scratches sliders work in both directions, and the added dust and scratches look like scanned film rather than random dashes.

Fixed

  • Ctrl+N (create a new image) was missing from the shortcut list in the settings.
  • Sharpening no longer draws a white border around the image.
  • WebP images can be opened in the editor again.
  • Selective adjustments no longer show the result of a different selection.
  • Semi-transparent PSD and ICO files no longer come out with wrong colours after an adjustment.
  • Generating thumbnails for a folder of RAW files is stable again.
  • Very large PSD/PSB files fall back to their embedded thumbnail instead of running out of memory.
