This release adds mask-based local editing, turns fills into an editable part of correction layers, brings imported xmp presets closer to Adobe, and refines the gallery and layers panel.

Highlights

  • Mask brush and separate mask layers. The selection tool gains a brush that paints a soft-edged mask shown as a red overlay, with add and subtract. Selections and masks are now clearly distinct: selections keep the familiar marching ants, masks use a red overlay, and each appears with its own name and icon in the layers panel.
  • Fills belong to correction layers. The fill tool no longer drops a separate object. A fill on its own – solid colour, linear or radial gradient – is painted into the selected area. A fill combined with an adjustment instead grades that adjustment by its brightness, so a black-to-white gradient fades the effect across the selection or mask. Fills stay editable afterwards and can be replaced by simply filling again.
  • More faithful xmp presets. Imported .xmp presets match Adobe more closely in tone, colour, split toning, and local gradient and radial corrections.
  • Objects can grow beyond the image. Image, shape and other overlay objects can now be enlarged past the image border, up to an edge length of 10,000 pixels.
  • Collapsible tool bar. The editor's left tool bar can be collapsed to icons only, and the choice is remembered.

Improvements and fixes

  • Sliders now cover the full range an imported preset can use, so values are no longer cut off: sharpening goes to 150, tint to ±150, and exposure to the full ±5 EV.
  • Right-click a layer in the layers panel to reach its actions directly – move, duplicate, add a correction with the same mask, rasterise, rename and delete – in addition to the footer buttons.
  • Selecting a correction layer in the panel now activates only that layer's selection or mask and clears any other active selection.
  • A selection can be turned into a correction layer directly, and the former Copy button is now Copy as image.
  • Double-click a colour grading wheel to reset it.
  • Gallery tiles can be configured so that star ratings, the favourite mark and metadata badges are either always visible or shown only on hover.
  • Ratings, favourites and tags are stored in the .fpxmp sidecar.
  • In Immich albums, a rating or favourite set in the viewer no longer reverts when you move to another photo and back.
  • Resetting or switching a preset now removes everything it applied, including camera calibration and preset-based local corrections, so effects such as a preset vignette no longer linger.
  • The vibrance slider no longer adds colour at zero saturation, and the shadows slider is better balanced.
  • In the before/after comparison, dragging the divider no longer moves overlay objects by mistake.
  • Image objects in .fpx projects keep their original file name in the layers panel after reopening.
  • The loading spinner now appears only for RAW images, and overlay objects keep their position when the image is cropped.

EXPERIMENTAL

ARM and OSX releases are not testet. Please give me a feedback if it works !

This is an unsigned macOS test build, so macOS Gatekeeper may say the app is “damaged” or “can’t be opened”. That does not necessarily mean the ZIP is broken.

Please try this:

  1. Download the correct build:
  • Apple Silicon / M1 / M2 / M3 / M4: The arm64 Version
  • Intel Mac: The x64 Version
  1. Unzip it.
  2. Move FerrumPix to Applications.
  3. Open Terminal and run: xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/FerrumPix.app
  4. Then start it with:

open /Applications/FerrumPix.app
