MetaEdit Plus 1.5.0 is a major reliability and usability release. It replaces the old whole-window scaling behavior with a genuinely responsive WPF layout, strengthens metadata handling across every supported format, and makes installation, updates, settings, Auto Tag, CSV, file tools, and recovery workflows safer and more predictable.
Truly Responsive Window
MetaEdit now responds naturally when its window changes shape.
- Independent resizing: Width and height can now be resized independently. Making the window wider no longer makes it taller, and changing height no longer scales the entire interface.
- Stable text and controls: Typography, icons, fields, and buttons keep their intended size instead of shrinking or growing with the window.
- Adaptive workspace: The directory list, metadata editor, performance panel, console, and action bar distribute the available space automatically.
- Better compact layouts: At shorter window heights, the metadata area scrolls while the console and primary actions remain usable.
- Reliable maximize and restore: Maximizing uses the correct monitor work area and restores the previous window position and dimensions accurately.
- Improved display handling: Window placement and rendering behave consistently across multiple monitors and Windows display-scaling settings.
Metadata Reliability
Tag editing is safer and more consistent across Batch and Per-File modes.
- Untouched metadata stays untouched: Per-file edits now write only fields that actually changed, preserving other values and multi-artist metadata.
- Stronger undo and redo: Complete tag states, including album artwork, are captured so removed metadata can be restored accurately.
- Clean tag removal: Remove Tags now removes every supported tag container instead of leaving hidden metadata behind.
- Consistent MP3 settings: ID3 version, text encoding, and ID3/APE preservation choices are validated and applied consistently.
- Better cover art handling: Image format detection, transparency handling, resizing, encoding, embedding, replacement, and removal are more reliable.
- MOV editing fixed: QuickTime MOV files now open through the correct media container handler instead of failing as an unsupported format.
- All advertised formats verified: Metadata, duration, and cover-art round trips were validated across all 7 audio and 6 video formats offered by MetaEdit.
Safer File and Folder Workflows
- Recursive folder loading: Supported media in subfolders is discovered and displayed using clear relative paths.
- More reliable drag and drop: Dropped folders and groups of files are resolved consistently, including files in nested folders.
- Safe renaming: Filename-from-tags operations now handle swaps, rename chains, case-only changes, duplicates, invalid characters, and conflicts without overwriting files.
- Safer filename patterns: Invalid patterns and unsafe output names are rejected before changes are applied.
- More dependable search and text tools: Find/replace and case conversion preserve fields that were not selected and report individual file failures clearly.
CSV Import and Export
- Correct CSV parsing: Quoted commas, quotes, line breaks, empty values, and UTF-8 text are handled correctly.
- Safer file matching: Imported rows are applied only when they resolve unambiguously to a loaded file.
- Clear field updates: Empty CSV cells can intentionally clear metadata without silently changing unrelated fields.
- Spreadsheet protection: Exported values that could be interpreted as formulas are escaped for safer opening in spreadsheet applications.
Auto Tag
- More dependable matching: AcoustID, MusicBrainz, and iTunes results are parsed and ranked more consistently.
- Responsive cancellation: Fingerprinting, searches, cover downloads, and multi-file Auto Tag operations react properly when cancelled.
- Special-character paths: Audio files whose paths contain spaces or special characters are handled correctly.
- Bounded downloads: Cover-art downloads are size-limited and incomplete responses are rejected instead of being accepted silently.
- Clearer failure behavior: Failed services or unreadable results no longer replace usable metadata with unreliable fallback values.
Settings and Cloud Sync
- Safer local settings: Settings are validated before use and saved atomically, protecting the file from partial writes or invalid combinations.
- Predictable cloud conflicts: The newest valid settings copy wins when local and cloud versions differ.
- Optional by design: MetaEdit remains fully usable offline; cloud sync is used only for authenticated users and never replaces the local fallback.
- Improved session refresh: Expired shared sessions are refreshed safely without duplicate refresh requests or accidental sign-outs during temporary network failures.
Installer and Updates
- Transactional upgrades: Application files are staged first and the previous installation is restored if deployment fails.
- Legacy upgrade cleanup: Upgrading from older releases removes files proven to belong to the old package while preserving settings and unrelated files.
- Safer extraction: Corrupt, oversized, duplicate, or path-traversing installer entries are rejected.
- Precise uninstall: The uninstaller removes only files tracked as part of MetaEdit and preserves user settings.
- Verified Hub installer: The optional Arctisoft Studio Hub download is selected from the official release and checked against its published size and SHA-256 digest before it runs.
- Reliable silent mode: Silent install, uninstall, desktop-shortcut, custom-directory, and optional-Hub command-line choices now behave consistently.
Stability and Quality
- Fewer freezes and fragile fallbacks: Long-running work is better isolated from the interface and recoverable failures are reported without corrupting current state.
- Improved validation: Invalid numeric metadata, malformed cloud data, unsafe paths, ambiguous imports, and incomplete downloads are rejected at the appropriate boundary.
- Regression coverage: The release was verified with real MP3 and FLAC copies, live Auto Tag services, all supported media containers, responsive window scenarios, upgrade/uninstall/reinstall workflows, and packaged installer payload checks.
