EShot v4.7.0

Recording overhaul

  • Windows: recordings now prefer Desktop Duplication through FFmpeg, with GDI capture as a fallback. Hardware H.264 encoding is used when supported and enabled.
  • Wayland: rebuilt portal recording startup, region cropping, pause/resume segments and finalization. Hardware H.264 encoding supports compatible VA-API and NVIDIA encoders, with a software fallback.
  • Windows GIF recording now uses an intermediate video and FFmpeg palette conversion, keeping encoding work off the interface thread.
  • Fixed Wayland recordings stopping on static screens when the portal sends frames without timestamps.
  • Improved microphone selection, desktop audio capture, device discovery and audio synchronization. Recording errors and missing dependencies are reported more clearly.

Recording controls and settings

  • One toolbar recording button opens GIF and video options, with Small, Balanced, High and editable Custom quality settings.
  • When a tray icon is available, pause, resume, stop and cancel are controlled from its menu. The recording frame can be hidden or shown without interrupting the recording. A control bar remains available on desktops without tray support.
  • The tray shows recording status and elapsed time, then switches to the saving/conversion state while the file is finalized.
  • Canceling a recording now clears its tray controls reliably, including cancellation during startup. Late encoder progress cannot restart canceled recording controls.
  • Recording shortcuts are registered only while needed. Saved-recording notifications work more reliably on KDE Plasma.

Setup and updates

  • The welcome screen fits its content instead of filling the screen, scrolls on small displays and keeps the Finish button reachable.
  • First-run setup starts in English on Windows and Linux; the language selected when completing setup is saved for the application.
  • Managed portable installations (#40): an empty .portable file beside the executable disables automatic update checks and silent updates. For AppImages, put it beside the original .AppImage file. Manual checks remain available, and settings storage is unchanged.

Windows x64, Windows ARM64 and Linux x86_64 packages are provided below. KDE Plasma 6 Wayland and GNOME Wayland remain the supported Linux desktop targets.
