OMI Desktop v0.12.173
What's New
- Improved desktop diagnostics when app setup, connected accounts, screen capture, or retention cleanup fail
- One microphone setting for everything, and Omi no longer nags you when a Bluetooth mic goes silent — it switches to the built-in mic and stays there
- Fixed Ask AI failing to answer any question on accounts with a long chat history
- Fixed tasks you deleted on another device reappearing as live tasks, and the Removed list staying empty
- Deleted tasks stay deleted — deletions now sync to the server with retry, so they can't come back after a reinstall or refresh
- Improved reliability when exporting desktop diagnostics
- Notification history rows use a neutral icon instead of shouting in blue
- Added call-aware boundaries for always-on transcription and a direct link from meeting-notes notifications to the finished conversation
- Removed notification active hours so enabled alerts can arrive at any time
- Audio Recording now has one simple control: Off, Always On, or Only Meetings
- A chat billing rejection now says so, instead of asking you to send the same message again
- Kept completed tasks checked and crossed out in Chat
- Fixed onboarding suggestions opening the notch composer instead of the main chat
- Show thumbs, copy, and info on the latest assistant reply as soon as it finishes, instead of waiting for a backend id
- Thumbs on a just-finished reply now wait for the message to sync before saving, so the rating no longer disappears
- Chat tool-call rows keep their icons aligned and put expand toggles next to the tool name
- Added clickable answer citations with source previews for conversations, memories, tasks, goals, screenshots, and web links
- Stopped turning other people's commitments into your tasks
- The 'Microphone Isn't Capturing Audio' popup is gone. When macOS blocks microphone access Omi asks for permission or points you at the exact setting; a genuinely silent mic just stops recording quietly
- Fixed Response Context to show observed tools, screenshot, and admitted kernel sources instead of guessed model or usage numbers
- Proactive notifications are on by default again at Balanced — focus suggestions and insights only; task and memory notifications stay opt-in, and your own frequency choice is kept
- Keep onboarding actions clear of progress indicators and add a visible skip option to permission requests
- Calmed the Permissions settings page: a lock in the nav with an orange mark while grants are missing, a plain Permissions title, compact granted rows, and a single Not Granted status
- Improved proactive suggestions so requirement changes no longer create duplicate task candidates unless the context contains an explicit commitment.
- Stopped repeating background proactive requests after the daily limit is reached
- Improved the reliability of proactive notifications so they keep working even when one background task hits its usage limit
- Required choosing and testing Open Omi and push-to-talk shortcuts during onboarding, with custom shortcuts available for both
- Fixed a Rewind page compile failure that blocked the signed macOS Beta build
- Added an off-by-default Speak Notifications Aloud option (Advanced settings → Preferences) that reads proactive notifications out loud using your chat voice
- New beta installs get context-bucket notifications immediately instead of waiting to be picked up by analytics targeting
- Browser tabs on the same website now build up one shared context instead of a separate one per tab title
- Fixed focus suggestions going silent when the context-buckets rollout was enabled: every assistant hears context switches again, not just the task assistant
- Added 5 pt of space between lines in chat messages and more room after a user bubble before the next reply
- Brought back the chat prompt rail with hover previews, and kept your place when loading older messages
- Fixed chat failing immediately after switching to Claude, Hermes, or OpenClaw while an Omi AI conversation was still open
- Context-bucket notifications reach the whole beta channel and every development build, instead of depending on analytics targeting that resolved for only part of it
- Fewer repeated nudges for the same app context when notification frequency is at Maximum
- Proactive notifications can now answer a question on your screen by looking it up once in your past conversations and memories before deciding
- Renamed the floating bar's right-click action to Hide for 2 hours — it now only hides the bar; notifications keep arriving (previously it silently muted all of them)
- Added a Today button to the new-task composer that creates the task due today in one click
- Fixed the live transcript expand view so it fills the Conversations panel on glass, hid the Live card when Only Meetings is waiting for a call, and stopped that wait from reading as Off
- Maximum notification level now paces focus nudges for a live demo: first nudge seconds after opening a leisure app and another under half a minute while you stay, without changing any calmer level
- At Maximum notification level, nudges arrive within ~10 seconds of switching into an app and can repeat every 30 seconds; Balanced and below keep the usual pace
- Screen analysis keeps running while you watch videos — media playback no longer counts as being away from the machine, so proactive notifications work during movies
- The notch stays on screen when you switch apps, Spaces, or displays. It no longer vanishes until you press Push-to-Talk.
- Fixed invisible dead zones around the main window and notch panel swallowing clicks: clicking another app now reaches it and brings it forward
- Flushed the summoned shell to the glass so resize sits on the visible panel edge instead of an invisible gutter
- Suggested tasks now use regular task rows with a working checkbox plus Accept and Reject, those actions confirm then fade the row like checking a task, Suggested checkboxes line up with Today/Tomorrow/Later, count badges sit next to category titles, and the old sparkle Suggestions list is gone
- Chat can now find recent work by the document, URL, or file you were in, not only by a screenshot of the tab
- Fixed a crash on macOS 15 when a chat answer with source citations was shown in the transcript
