GearBench is a lightweight Windows memory benchmark designed for DDR4 and DDR5 performance testing, memory overclocking, and hardware comparison.
It measures Read, Write, Copy, Latency, and Triad performance while allowing users to compare results through an online community leaderboard.
GearBench is built specifically for enthusiasts, overclockers, and anyone interested in measuring real-world memory subsystem performance on modern Intel and AMD platforms.
🚀 What's New in v1.7
This release focuses on security, leaderboard integrity, and hardware detection. While the benchmark engine itself remains unchanged, the entire online infrastructure has been redesigned to provide a much more secure and reliable experience.
🔒 Security Improvements
Completely redesigned online authentication using Supabase Anonymous Authentication
Benchmark results are now owned by a unique installation identity instead of relying on hardware fingerprints
Added Row Level Security (RLS) policies to prevent unauthorized modification of benchmark results
Uploads are now securely tied to authenticated installation identities
Greatly improved leaderboard integrity
🧠 Improved Memory Detection
Replaced the previous frequency-based DDR detection
GearBench now detects DDR generation directly from SMBIOS, providing accurate DDR4 and DDR5 identification regardless of operating frequency
Added automatic memory module Part Number detection
Improved hardware metadata collection for future comparison and filtering features
🌐 New Online Leaderboard
During the beta period, weaknesses in the original upload permission model allowed the online comparison database to be manipulated.
The issue was not related to Supabase itself, but to the original permission model used by GearBench.
To ensure long-term data integrity, the previous leaderboard has been retired and a completely new database has been created using the new secure authentication system.
Only GearBench v1.7 and newer submissions are displayed in the Comparison Viewer.
Although previous online benchmark history is no longer available, this creates a clean, trustworthy foundation for future benchmark comparisons.

📝 Developer Note
The original beta implementation relied on hardware fingerprints to determine benchmark ownership.
During community testing it became clear that this approach was not sufficiently secure for a public online leaderboard.
Version 1.7 introduces a completely redesigned authentication model based on authenticated installation identities combined with database-level security policies.
Although rebuilding the leaderboard meant retiring the previous comparison database, it provides a much stronger foundation for future GearBench releases.
