New apps and stories

  • Shiny Hunt for Gen 2 and 3 counts target encounters and egg hatches, keeps hunts across soft resets, and records shinies, phases, time and pace. The app and Home widgets show cumulative probability and milestones using the games' base shiny odds; mods may change those odds.
  • Moments adds a tab to Stamps for stories earned during play, with the Pokémon, place and date. They stay hidden until they happen. Existing Shiny Hunt logs can also award the first-shiny moment.
  • Notifications adds short messages, optional chimes and unread dots for shinies, moments, Day-Care, Calendar and Stamps. Cards wait for safe gameplay, pause during battles and menus, and can appear over the game when Gear is hidden. Tap to open or swipe to dismiss. Settings controls each category, duration and shiny chime timing; chimes respect the game's sound-effect volume.

Display recovery

  • First use starts with game and Gear on one screen. A setup prompt supports touch and D-pad/A/B, waits for a safe offline state, and pauses gameplay while choosing.
  • Two-screen setup requires confirmation on the second output. An unconfirmed choice falls back automatically, and a lost output temporarily restores the combined layout.
  • Settings → System → Display Setup reopens setup without resetting game saves or other options.
  • Phone pairing has a local Use One Screen exit and fits portrait displays, preventing the pairing screen from trapping the user outside Settings.

Encounter guides

  • FireRed/LeafGreen readers include appended encounter slots.
  • Gen 3 walking and surfing guides use Recomp's public encounter-preview contract, including registered additions and forms. This supports arbitrary providers without identifying individual mods.
  • Dynamic spawn mods must publish their complete distributions through encounter.table; Gear cannot infer hidden pool members from primary slots. The Modern Spawns complete-preview fix is submitted separately as Modern Spawns #2. Gear includes the generic reader; full pool listings require the provider fix, which is pending upstream review.
  • Changed distributions show -- for levels because the shared contract does not supply level ranges. Fishing and Rock Smash retain their native readers. See Encounter previews.

Integration fixes

  • Count each wild battle once even when the host replaces or reuses enemy records.
  • Clear transient notification and moment state when loading another save, and report explicit storage failures.
  • Match Gen 2 rematches by trainer identity, avoiding false awards for another trainer of the same class.
  • Share Stamps tab geometry between rendering and touch handling, including the new Moments tab.
  • Notification cards capture their complete touch gesture, keeping covered widgets still. Cards follow a drag and leave in its direction; short drags return smoothly. Interrupted gestures cannot activate controls exposed underneath.

Requirements and validation

Requires Gen1Recomp 0.3.93 or newer (mod API 3). Validated locally against the exact official 0.3.96 source.

The integrated source passes 358 Lua fixture cases across all eleven editions,
390 Lua compilation checks and the Phone Display browser suite. The new screens
were inspected in 84 enlarged previews covering both skins, Gen 1/2 and Light/Dark.

Thor checks confirm the encounter counter, new app tabs, Calendar notification
delivery and sound, improved swipe animation, and isolation from the widget
underneath. Notification gestures were also inspected in 56 enlarged frames
covering Gen 1/2, both skins and Light/Dark. The full Modern Spawns encounter
preview was checked on the Thor with its separate provider patch.

Install

Update from the Mod Index
when available, or import kanto_gear-4.5.0.zip. The same ZIP works on Android,
Windows and Linux and includes no ROM or save. The attached checksum and
verification report identify the ZIP and its exact committed source.
