Kanto Gear 4.1.0 reorganizes the complete 4.0.5 feature set into a cleaner, maintainable codebase. The existing apps, widgets, supported games, saved data and optional Phone / Browser display remain available.
A clearer foundation
-
Split the 16,208-line entry file into a 215-line module entry point and focused runtime, feature, model and UI modules.
-
Separate Gen 3 data models, native menu builders and progress rules. Keep required differences between games explicit instead of hiding them behind a generic adapter.
-
Remove safely superseded renderers and unreachable battle-layout branches. Production Lua is reduced by 2,281 lines, including the newly added compatibility comments.
-
Label game, host and external-mod exceptions with their scope and reason. Add a project map, before/after comparison and repeatable test/package tools.
Before and after
| Metric | 4.0.5 | 4.1.0 |
| --- | ---: | ---: |
| Entry point (main.lua) | 16,208 lines | 215 lines |
| Lua files directly in the mod root | 83 | 1 |
| Production Lua files | 88 | 196 |
| Production Lua lines | 51,970 | 49,689 |
Production counts include comments, data and third-party Lua, and exclude tests.
The additional files separate responsibilities; net production Lua is reduced
by 2,281 lines (about 4.4%). No runtime-speed or memory improvement is claimed.
Companion and input fixes
-
Companion uses the DS-style Fight / Bag / Run / Pokémon page with its You/VS/Foe or Wild strip. HP and battle text stay on the game screen.
-
During battle text, lower commands are disabled and dimmed. The small animated Continue arrow appears when the game is waiting for confirmation.
-
Touches between move cards cannot accidentally choose an attack.
-
B closes visible field move details without also closing the summary underneath. Native field input retains its authority.
Validation
-
276/276 automated Lua and browser cases pass; 339 Lua files compile.
-
Direct adapter data/menu comparisons, unchanged-save checks and enlarged Light/Dark previews support the structural cleanup.
-
One game from each generation was manually opened and tried on-device without reported problems. This is smoke testing, not a complete playthrough of every edition.
-
The release ZIP is built from the committed source, every packaged file is verified, and two builds produce the same SHA-256. Existing image/font assets and licenses are preserved.
No save-data migration is required. Phone / Browser streaming remains experimental, as in 4.0.5. Use the latest official Recomp and report your game, host version, device and other active mods if anything behaves differently.
