Kanto Gear 4.0.3 makes battle information clearer, especially in double battles and when a Pokémon gains several levels at once.
- Type matchups when choosing a target: After selecting an attack in a double battle, each available target shows its own type multiplier alongside the ally/enemy label. This uses that Pokémon's current defensive types and respects the type-hint setting. Status moves and moves whose type cannot be reliably previewed do not show a guessed multiplier.
- Move-card hints when doubles become one versus one: If only one Pokémon remains on each side, the attack cards show type matchups directly again. If another ally or opponent returns, the cards leave the result to target selection.
- Correct quarter-damage label: A ¼× matchup now displays as ¼ rather than ½.
- Level-ups follow the game's presentation: Gear no longer jumps ahead to the final level while the game is still presenting earlier steps. Gen 2's battle level follows the native displayed level. In Gen 3, battle levels and stat-window headings follow the current experience step, so a sequence such as 5 → 6 → 7 → 8 shows the matching level and stats at each stage, including Pokémon gaining experience on the bench. Gen 1 retains its existing step-by-step behavior.
- Battle HUD refresh: Level and maximum-HP changes now also trigger a refresh, even when current HP stays the same.
Update through the Mod Index or import kanto_gear-4.0.3.zip below. Existing saves, settings and notes are retained.
Validation includes 24 focused automated suites across all 11 supported editions, covering double-battle targets, all surviving-slot combinations in one-versus-one battles, repeated level gains, benched Pokémon, and native menu controls. Enlarged previews were inspected in both theme families, Light and Dark. The release ZIP was checked against the exact release commit; bundled assets are unchanged from 4.0.2.
Gen 3 still needs broader playthrough and mod-combination testing; feedback is welcome.
