Kanto Gear 2.1 — Silph Link Day
The custom Kanto host is no longer required. Every display and mod API that
Kanto Gear needs is now part of the official Gen1Recomp 0.1.99 release.
This is the milestone Kanto Gear has been working toward from the beginning:
install the official host, import one mod, and choose how and where both views
should appear.
Official host support
- Kanto Gear now requires the official Gen1Recomp 0.1.99 or newer for new
installations. - Android dual-screen output was verified with Red and Gold on an AYN Thor,
including local maps, live display switching and reconnect recovery. - Windows was verified in combined-screen mode and with Kanto Gear in its own
movable companion window. - Single Screen, Combined Screen and Dual Screen retain every layout, overlay,
resize, swap and touch feature introduced in Kanto Gear 2.0. - No custom host or Voxel renderer is required.
Moving from the legacy Android host
The old Kanto host and official Gen1Recomp use different Android app identities,
so the official app installs beside the old one and cannot automatically see
its saves, ROM cache, mods or settings.
- Keep the old host installed until every transferred save has been verified.
- Red, Blue and Yellow players can export a cartridge
.savfrom the old host
and import it into the official app. - Gen1Recomp 0.1.99 cannot export a Pokémon Gold cartridge
.savyet. Gold
players should keep playing in the final legacy host until an upstream Gen 2
transfer path is available. - Kanto Gear 2.1 therefore continues to accept exactly the final legacy host,
0.1.94-kanto.22. The host is frozen and will receive no further feature
releases.

Import only kanto_gear-2.1.0.zip unless you also want one of the optional
language packs. Existing Kanto Gear settings remain available after updating
the mod inside the same host installation.
Verified
- Kanto Gear compatibility: 196/196 checks passed on the official and final
legacy hosts. - Gen 2 compatibility: 23/23 checks passed on both hosts.
- Desktop compatibility: 2/2 checks passed on both hosts.
- German and Spanish integrations: 8/8 checks each.
- Both language catalogs: 286 strings checked each.
- Every release archive was built with the official Modkit and has a published
SHA-256 checksum.
