The host APK and Kanto Gear must be used together. Kanto Gear works without Dramatic Shape. If you already use or want Dramatic Shape with Kanto Gear on Android, use the matching Voxel fork above; it contains the companion-screen battle HUD fixes needed to avoid empty gray or translucent panels on the main display.
What changed
- Party, summary, PC and move-learning screens now resolve custom Pokemon sprites consistently. Animated or otherwise unsupported previews fall back cleanly instead of leaving black boxes or placeholder artwork.
- Full Gear battles use a cleaner status layout, show live HP loss on the lower screen during attacks and keep brief transition frames quiet instead of flashing stale status panels.
- The caught indicator now uses the game's canonical Pokeball rendering when available.
- The Trainer page now shows the real eight badge silhouettes. Earned badges are solid; missing badges remain visible but faded.
- Pressing B closes Move Info first and no longer leaks through to the move list beneath it.
- Teaching a fifth move with a TM outside battle no longer crashes Kanto Gear. This fixes #9.
- Header spacing is stable across 12/24-hour clocks and longer labels. Charging now animates the battery segments, while the low-battery warning retains its slow blink.
Tested
- The exact release source passed all 47/47 Kanto Gear compatibility checks, LuaJIT bytecode compilation, strict Modkit validation and the no-ROM-data lint.
- On an AYN Thor running Android 13, the Trainer page opened with real badge sprites, Move Info returned correctly with B, and teaching a TM to a Pokemon with four moves completed without a crash.
- Full Gear battle entry, attacks, live HP loss, caught status, transient battle frames and return to the overworld were checked on the same source chain.
- Custom-sprite fallbacks were checked across the Party, summary, PC and move-learning views.
Updating from 1.6.0
Replace Kanto Gear with Kanto-Gear-Mod-1.7.0.zip. The Android host and optional Voxel fork are unchanged, so users already on the matched 1.6.0 set do not need to reinstall either one.
This remains an unofficial Android public test release. Keep an exported save backup. No ROM, ROM-extracted asset or game data is included.
